Why Be A Spearman?

Warrior Job Tree, with the Spearman indicated in red.

The Spearman is known for its incredible attacking power as well as its incredible mobbing abilities. They sacrifice speed for extra range and huge attacking power. They have the most unstable damage out of the three warrior branches and tend to be very difficult in first and second jobs, but the payout can be well worth it for the elite few who can make it to the third job.

Pros and Cons

All classes have goods and bads. These are the spearmen's:

Pros

  • Spears and Polearms (the weapons that Spearmen use) have the longest range of the warrior weapons, thus making mobbing more effective.
  • Higher MP than Fighters and Pages.
  • Get Hyper Body, a fantastic party skill, which is almost a requirement for any successful boss party.
  • When stabbing (as opposed to slashing), spears will deal 1.5x damage; when slashing (as opposed to stabbing), polearms will deal 1.5x damage.

Cons

  • Lower HP than Fighters and Pages.
  • One of the slower leveling classes.
  • Can't equip shields (spears and polearms are 2-handed) so they lost out on extra defence.
  • A very large damage range.
  • Spear slashes do 60% of the damage of spear stabs, and polearm stabs do 60% of the damage of polearm slashes. This is what gives Spear(wo)men their unstable damage, even after gaining mastery.
  • No Power Guard

Spears or Polearms

Choosing between spears and polearms isn't easy. Look below to find pros and cons for each weapon.

Pros - Spears

  • Mobs in 3rd job appear in sizes that favor the use of Buster.
  • Usually cheaper than polearms.
  • Dragon Blood and Buster combined are quite powerful.

Cons - Spears

  • Only approximately two-fifths (≈40%) of the attacks are stabs, which weakens the spear's usefulness
  • Overshadowed by Polearms in the 2nd job due to higher chance of slashing.

Pros - Polearms

  • Approximately Three-fifths (≈60%) of the attacks are slashes, powerful for polearms and can hit more enemies above and below you.
  • Better than spears in 2nd job due to higher chance of slashing.
  • Dragon Fury has less delay than Buster.
  • Polearms are found more commonly than spears.

Cons - Polearms

  • Usually more expensive than Spears
  • Mobs in 3rd job appear in sizes that favor the use of Buster.
  • Not useful for using Buster, which attacks multiple enemies and hits multiple times
  • Arans also uses Pole-Arms, who are better in that sense.

Pros - Hybrid

  • Has the Strength of pole-arms in 2nd job without the cost of them in 3rd.

Cons - Hybrid

  • Hybrids will either max Final Attack and have low level Spear and Polearm Boosters, or max both boosters and skip Final Attack altogether.

AP Builds

Normal Build

DEX = Levelx2, rest into STR

Minimum STR until about 120 DEX Build

Get just enough STR for next armor, rest into DEX

No DEX Build

All points into STR

(Note: Not recommended unless you have a funder) (Another Note: By "Funded" it means have at least 5mil with you- 3mil or 4mil(sometimes 2mil) for the Brown Bandana 50k-100k for Fish Spear 400k-450k for 800 and/or 900 Sniper Pots)

Low Dex Build

1 dex = 0.8 acc

Before reading any of this, you should be aware that low dex warriors are more expensive than their normal dex counterparts. The idea of a low dex warrior is to have low dex and use items that add dex, in order to allow more stats to be added to strength. A normal low dex warrior has anywhere from forty to sixty dex.

If you don't have money:

At lvl 35 you will buy blue crusader chainmail, and make it +10 with 100% scrolls. It will cost you 462.5k (overall is 112.5k and the scrolls are 35k each- 350k, will give you 14 dex). Use a green bamboo hat, which costs about 15k and adds 3 dex. At lvl 42 buy icarus cape (2)+5 dex which worth 4mil (you will have the money at that lvl if you have a funder) You may also want to invest in sniper potions if the money is available to you.

so, at lvl 50 instead of having 80-90 dex you will have the base dex u chose (let's say it's 60)+ 22 dex. So you will have 60+22 = 82 dex :D If you still miss the monsters then buy work gloves that adds dex (+6 dex +10 acc worth 4.5mil) When you will have money to buy better overall armors , attack work gloves, cape, and snowshoes + 7 acc or better.

If you have money:

Buy the lvl 35 overall 19-24 dex (19 - 20mil, 24 - 50mil) Buy at lvl 42 Icarus 10 dex (worth 45mil - i think) Buy work gloves 8-15 (rofl 15 XD) attack (8 worth 35 mil, 9 worth 45mil, 10 worth 70mil...) Buy snowshoes 7-13 acc (dont know the price) Buy at lvl 25 green bamboo hat (worth 15k)

Max Acc - + 57.6 Min Acc - + 47.6

So if you have 40 base dex you will have 32 acc 32+57.6 = 89 acc which is 111.25 dex!

And, 16 spare points

  • Note by a player: I recommend Spearmen (and all warriors, in fact) to save up SP for Final Attack. In lower levels, Final Attack might not knockback the monster, and you'll get hit.
  • Note by a player: I second the guy above me. I'd like to add that the minimum SP you should save for Final Attack should be 15. Low level FA does pretty poor damage.
  • Note by a player: For the dexless build, I suggest pumping all your SP into Mastery first to get accuracy which will benefit you in hitting high leveled monsters at a specific level. Then Booster(not until maxed yet) Then Hyper Body and lastly Final Attack as your damage is high enough and you do not need to knock monsters back if only depending on dodging. Then finally when you're about lvl 67+ you can pump the rest of your SP into Booster or Iron Will.
  • Note by a player: For a Hybrid Spearman, Final Attack is not recommended. The points normally used for Final Attack should be used in Polearm Booster and Spear Booster. This way, Pole Arm Master, Spear Mastery, Spear Booster, Pole Arm Booster, and Hyperbody end up Maxed.
  • Note by a player: REMEMBER, before 2nd JOB, still being a warrior, so try to use swords, because, the spears without mastery, has low possibilities to hit at max.
