TO EVERYONE WHO READS THIS PAGE:PLEASE DO NOT EDIT THIS GUIDE AS THE GUIDE CONTAINS FULL INFORMATION!

Information provided from a quest:

Zakum was a spirit sealed in a tree deep in the mines of El Nath's volcano. A mining town that once existed nearby eventually discovered this tree. At the time, it had no malevolent notions, but the greed of the miners corrupted it. As the spirit was corrupted, it grew smarter, and finally became capable of controlling the town's populace. It forced them to build an enormous statue in tribute to it. The now evil spirit of Zakum possessed the statue, subjugated all the humans and eventually killed everyone in the town. Zakum now rests deep in the lava caves, waiting for powerful players to challenge his might.

Starting the quest

First, you must be level 50 or above. Go to El Nath and talk to your respective 3rd Job Instructor (they are the job advancement people for 3rd job). Ask them to allow you to participate in the Zakum Dungeon Quest.

Warning: You cannot do the Zakum mine quest if you did not do the above tasks.

Recommended level and pots to do the quest

Minimum:
400 White Potions
400 Red Bean Sundae
200 Melting Cheese (Warrior)

Return Scroll to El Nath when you need in case of emergency, be it re-pot or trading.

Recommended Level to be:

55 Onwards. Avoid the bains at all costs. Also note that if you fall into the lava, it deals 200 damage per second

How to get to the quest place (El Nath Dungeon) Time needed: 1 hour or less

You can skip the below if you have the item “Return Scroll to Dead Mine” which costs about 200k at Free Market.

Walk right of El Nath town. Soon, you will see Yetis, especially the big ones. Look out for a map with crossroads as you move along. Take the top portal at the crossroads. Soon after you continue walking more, you will come to a map that has a dead end. Talk to the NPC at the top, and he'll allow you into the dungeon. Prepare to face tons of wolves and werewolves.

For Thieves use Dark Sight, Magicians use Magic Guard, as for other jobs, just run for it and pray that you don’t get hit. You may be damaged with 1000 damage. You will come to the zombies. Walk right and right and right until it appears to be a dead end. Go into the hole at the right and you’ll end up at Dead Mine. Walk down to get to the map the passage and fall down. Detour around the Bains using ropes and keep moving right. Then, you will reach the map The Door to Zakum. Congratulations! You have made it.

Explore the Dead Mine

Time limit: 30 minutes

You must complete stages 1-3 once each in order to fight Zakum.

Make a party (You can form a party of yourself too, solo), and you are ready to do stage 1.

I have made 4 guides.

  1. Basic information that you must know
  2. Guide to getting ONLY keys

Guide 1: Important information

  1. Talk to Adobis and enter the mine map

  3. Rooms 10 and 7 lead to room 16. Here is a map for room 16:

The yellow x is where you come out. All these maps are called 16-(the yellow number). For example, room 1 in area 16 would be called 16-1.

You need to collect 7 keys as part of stage 1. You are also given the optional task of finding 30 out of 32 documents to exchange to get 5 “return scroll to dead mine”.

Whacking the rocks and chests located in each map can: 1. Summon 3 Jr. Mimics(only for chest) 2. Teleport you back to the first map (only for chest) 3. Drop Return Scrolls to Dead Mine, mesos, Elixir and Power Elixir, Fried Chicken, Red Bean Soup 4. Drop keys 5. Drop documents

END OF STAGE 1

Observe the Zakum Dungeon (Level 2)

This is a jump quest. It is very hard and has 2 stages. If you quit or get disconnected while in the jump quest, you have to start from the beginning (You’ll be teleported to the map “The door to Zakum”).

There is no guide, but here is a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8q10m7voFrg

Tips

  • The very hard part is at 1 min 04 sec onwards. Try jumping when the ball shoots at you and hold up to be "hit back to the rope", however if you time wrongly you will go straight down. Hurray
  • In general, patience is your best friend. Take your time to analyse the rocks and fireballs. In the end, this will be faster than having to start over.

Items gained

  • The Breath of lava and some exp by talking to an npc at the end

END OF STAGE 2

Request For a Refinery (Level 3)

  1. Adobis will now ask you for 30 gold tooths. Get these from hunting the Minor Zombies (the ones with hats) at Dead Mine. Change channel at “the door to zakum” and you’ll end up at “The Passage”. Change channel again and you’ll end up at "Forest of Dead Trees 4". Walk right and go into the hole to hunt. The teeth are yellow in colour by the way, not white.
  2. Head back to Adobis, refine your 3 items from the 3 stages, and you’ll gain 5 eye of fire.
  3. Now you can summon Zakum 5 times.

NOTE: In some versions, Adobis will ask for 30 gold tooth, but he NEEDS 30 Hector tail (which are easily obtainable around El Nath).

Zakum fight guide

What jobs are needed?

Now that 4th job is out, I cannot provide specific information. Just fit the minimum which is stated below, and you're good to go.

Priests: You're main objective is to minimize the pot usage of your party members by quickly using heal and dispel throughout the run. If you are the only priest in your party, then your party should be assembled so that you only have to concentrate on one area. If your party leader permits it, try to keep your dragon summoned at all times, too. Sometimes leaders think this adds to lag...
Maxed Dispel
Maxed Heal
Maxed Magic Guard
Maxed Holy Symbol
Maxed Invincible
Maxed Bless
Optional: Any level of Summon Dragon

Dragon Knights: Keep Hyper Body casted on all of your party members at all times; when you're rebuffing HB for yourself, do it a couple times and make sure it reached everyone in your party, especially if you have buyers (low levels that actually need it) in your party. Other than that, try to do as much damage as possible. During the body, DKs are the best class to help clear all the mobs of summons, so when you see a lot of summons, help kill them.
Maxed Hyper Body
Maxed crusher/Dragon Fury
Maxed Spear/Polearm Booster
Maxed blood

Chief Bandits: Help speed up killing Zakum by dropping mesos for 2 minutes at a time and then using Meso Explosion. You should cast Meso Guard, Dark Sight followed by dropping mesos for about 2 minutes before you explode them. This is why you need high level Meso Guard/Dark Sight because if you get stunned and your skills wear off, you are dead. Chief Bandits rely on their Priests to heal them 100% of the time; however, if you see that all the Priests in your party are stunned, then walk off the body, get out of Dark Sight and use potion by yourself until they are ready again.

Maxed Meso Explosion
Maxed (high level) Meso Guard
Maxed (high level) Dark Sight
Maxed Haste

Hermits: Focus on the top 2 right arms of Zakum as soon as everyone starts attacking. The top right arm is probably the hardest one to kill because really only ranged attackers can reach it. Keep your party members hasted, so they can try hitting it. At the body, use avenger when you the ground summons spawn. The rest of the time, just keep throwing lucky7 at the body.

Level 110+

Maxed Lucky Seven
Maxed Shadow Partner
Maxed Avenger
Maxed Haste
Maxed Claw Booster
Maxed Drain

Rangers: Focus on the top 2 right arms of zakum attacking with strafe. The top right arm is probably the hardest one to kill because really only ranged attackers can reach it. At the body, use arrow rain when there are lots of summons around. The rest of the time, just keep using strafe on the body.

Maxed Strafe
Maxed Arrow Rain
Bow Booster

Snipers: Focus on the top 2 right arms of Zakum attacking with strafe. The top right arm is probably the hardest one to kill because really only ranged attackers can reach it. At the body, use ice shot whenever summons spawn to freeze them before they can reach the players. The rest of the time, just keep using strafe on the body.
Level 110+

Maxed Strafe
High level ice shot (Most people recommend to leave it as 21, up to you)
Crossbow Booster

Ice Mages: Focus on the top 2 right arms of zakum attacking with composition. At the body, stand on the first platform and spam ice strike to freeze the summons before they reach the players. When the ice summons start spawning, use thunderbolt to help lure the summons down at a steady rate so that the other classes can help kill them.
Max Ice Strike
Max Magic Composition/Thunder Spear
Max Thunderbolt
Magic Booster

Fire Mages: Focus on the top 2 right arms of Zakum attacking with composition. When the ice summons start spawning, use explosion to help kill those. Recommended you don't cast poison mist as it confuses people with Zakum's poison mist attack...
Max Explosion
Max composition
Max booster
Max Element Amplification

Crusaders: Keep rage casted on all hermits, rangers, and snipers in your party. Attack as many arms as you can and then just concentrate on the body.
Max Rage
Max Power Strike
Max Panic (Sword)
Max Coma
Max Sword Booster

White Knights: Attack as many arms as you can and then just concentrate on the body.
Max Power Strike
Max fire/ice/lightning charges
Max charged blow
booster

What pots/equips/computer specs are required?

You will need a minimum of 3,500hp. However this was done with a Pure Int Ice/Lightning Mage with low armour.

So add in:

  • Level
  • Weapon defense, magic defense of armour
  • Defense skills that add to defense, such as bless
  • Magic guard, Meso guard

Before considering the hp requirement.

Pots

Its highly recommended that you take the following:

Do note that runs range from 20 minutes to 2 hours, so it's best to use this minimum.

Accuracy

For warriors, calculate

(55+{2x [140 - Your Level]}) x 1.073

Zakum is level 140, so if you're level 140, you need 59 accuracy. Reason:

55 x 1.073 = 59.015 ~ 59

However if you're say level 100, you need 144 accuracy

Hyperbody formula

  • Formula for calculating HP/MP with HB max: (Your HP or MP) X 160%
  • Formula for calculating HP/MP increase with HB max: (Your HP or Mp) x 60%

Strategy

Pointers:

  • Remember to buff your party members with your party skills when the effects start to go away
  • Stay awake, or play in the morning, when your mind is fresh. Go to the bathroom before the fight
  • Adjust your monitor refresh rate to make it easy on your eyes.

To do so on Windows:

  1. Right click desktop
  2. Select properties
  3. Select settings
  4. Select advanced
  5. Select monitor
  6. Change refresh rate to maximum

Zakum: How much accuracy do you need?

Use the below calculator. http://www.maplehero.com/e107_plugins/mms_tools/cal_accuracy.php

FAQ (Frequently asked questions)

Q1 Why Zakum? There must be a reason behind the name...

Zaqqum (Arabic: زقوم) is a tree that Muslims believe grows in Jahannam (hell). The Khati'un are compelled to eat Ad-Dhari, bitter fruit, to intensify their torment (69:36-37). The Khati'un may eat only the fruit or Ghislin (foul pus from the washing of their wounds) (69:36). Its fruits are shaped like devils' heads (Qur'an 37:62-68). According to Shaykh Umar Sulayman Al-Ashqar, a professor at the University of Jordan, once the palate of the sinners is satiated, the fruit in their bellies churns like burning oil. Some Islamic scholars believe the fruit tears their bodies apart and releases bodily fluids. Quote from the Qur'an:

[44.43] Surely the tree of the Zaqqum, [44.44] Is the food of the sinful [44.45] Like dregs of oil; it shall boil in (their) bellies, [44.46] Like the boiling of hot water.

Q2 How do I get to the other side of Zakum once I killed the 4 arms on one side?

Press up at the top left or topright of the map. Teleporter is marked by an animal skull.

Q3. Can I attack the body straight away?

Nope. You must kill ALL the 8 arms before you can hit the Zakum body.

Q4 Must I donate money to the chief bandit of the party? So he can meso-explosion?

Doing so is up to you.

Q5 How much money is needed to meso bomb Zakum to death?

About 50m to 200m.

Q6 Can we throw out the Zakum helm?

Yes you can, but it'll disappear.

Q8 When will Zakum Helm 2 and 3 come out?

Good news: it doesn't seem to be coming out anytime soon.

Q9 If we do the 3 quests, fight Zakum, do I have to redo the 3 quests?

No. First time is to unlock Zakum. Then if you choose to do the 3 quests again, its to refill your supply of "eye of fire"

Q10 Is it compulsory to pay for zakum slot?

Nope but it increases chances of getting one.

Q11 When is collecting of fares for Zakum slot illegal?

Illegal: Collect for personal gain

Legal: Collecting for bombing

Q12 Can I hold two Zakum helms at a time?

No. You can only hold 1 (equipping counts) at a time.

Q13 I'm running vista and I keep crashing at Zakum!

1.Run maplestory under compatibility mode, windows xp
