Why Be An Assassin?

Thief Job Tree, with the Assassin indicated in red.

As one of the two second job advancements for the Thief, the Assassin is one of the fastest, most dangerous jobs in the game. Of course, you start out weak, but you come out of it, bursting into your third job with huge amounts of damage and speed.

Second Job Introduction

This is where it gets fun! You've figured out the basics of the Thief, and you are now on your way of achieving what you've set out to do! The Assassin is a very fast, lethal character, so use your new powers to good! Assassins use the Claw as the main weapon. It facilitates them in long-range and fast attack. Although the training may seem tough at times, later on you will realize that it was worth it.

Job Advancement Procedure

Finally, level 30! Time to make the second job advancement! To make the second job advancement, go back to where you first got your job of Thief and talk to the Dark Lord. When you talk to him, he will give you a letter to take to his instructor.

The instructor is two maps east of Kerning City; Talk to him. Buy 50 or 60 orange potions before leaving or 30 white potions. He'll take you to the advancement area. The only way to get out is to change channel or die. Its reccomended that after this is, go after the monsters. Get 30 dark marbles, return to the thief instructor and obtain the proof. Now, go back to The Dark Lord (Long lecture comes). Choose the Assassin and then confirm your choice. Congratulations! You are now an Assassin, and have just proceeded into your second job advancement!

Job Analysis

Being an Assassin means that you are on your way to becoming an expert with throwing stars. The skills you acquire, the armor that you wear, the money that you have in your storage are all factors which determine the advantages and disadvantages of your chosen profession. In this case, it is the Assassin. Below, is a small list of general advantages and disadvantages in your ongoing career as an Assassin.

Pros

  • Attack with range, beaten only by Bowmen
  • High level of avoidability
  • Attack rather quickly
  • Drain gives Assassins another way to recover HP
  • Critical Throw amplifies Lucky Seven's damage
  • Has Haste, allowing faster movement and jump of the entire party
  • Saves money because of drain by not having to buy HP pots
  • Only character that is able to jump and shoot stars at the same time
  • Assassins rarely die

Cons

  • Assassins cannot kill mobs as easily as most other classes since they require range to throw stars, but this is made up for in third job with the mob skill, Avenger.
  • Don't get any new attacking skills until they become a Hermit
  • Assassins don't get much stronger than first job until about Lv35 or so.
  • Assassins are very, VERY common, and as a result has the highest upkeep costs for the 2nd job.

Stat Distribution

The stat distribution is the same as before, so there's no need to worry about this. Just keep your DEX at 2 times your level, and everything else goes into LUK! So at lvl 10, your dex has to have 25 AP. Continue adding the rest of your AP points into LUK until you reach level 13. Once you level to lvl 13, you can use one of the two methods below:

LUK: +5 for three levels
DEX: +5 for two levels

Or

LUK: +3 on each level
DEX: +2 on each level

Confer:
Level 30: 60 DEX, 102 LUK
Level 35: 70 DEX, 117 LUK
Level 40: 80 DEX, 132 LUK
Level 45: 90 DEX, 147 LUK

Until level 40 your DEX should be twice your level. After that it must be your lvl+40 To maximize the amount of points invested on LUK, you can keep the DEX at an enough amount required to wear the equipment. Once you hit level 50, the amount of DEX needed by the equipment is only 90 and from now on, the DEX amount does not need to be twice your level.

Levels 30-40: LUK +3, DEX +2 per level
From level 41 onwards: LUK +4, DEX +1 per level

Confer:

Level 40: 80 DEX, 147 LUK
Level 50: 90 DEX, 187 LUK
Level 60: 100 DEX, 227 LUK
Level 70: 110 DEX, 267 LUK

Places To Train

Below are some recommended places where you should train, and monsters of which you should train off.

Level 30-35

Train at Ant Tunnel. Also, head over to Ant Tunnel II. Near the bottom of the map, there is a mini-dungeon full of Zombie Mushrooms and Horny Mushrooms. They spawn in ridiculously high amounts, and there are quite a few small platform to the sides, where you won't get attacked. These are close enough to continuously attack monsters without receiving damage. Advice: If training gets slow Wild Boars may do the trick. They take about 1-2 hits to kill and give a good amount of exp. If you are dexless you might try Fire Boars or Teddys. Monster Carnival can give out a lot of EXP and coins for free equips.

Level 35-40

Train at Sakura Cellions in Armoria, or the Jr. Cellions in Orbis for money. If you want amazing exp, but not as good of drops, train at Teddies in Ludibrium. Ludibrium PQ gives approximately 30% at level 35, but it is difficult to find a party that will accept you (as a level 35-38 member). Monster Carnival is decent for this level range.

Level 40-45

Train at Teddies in Ludibrium. If you need money, or are short on money, do either Ludibrium PQ or train at Sakura Cellions. However, do not attempt the Orbis Cellions as they will block most of your hits and most likely kill you. Chronos are GREAT if you are in need of exp. The Monster Carnival EXP starts to not be as good.

Level 45-50

The easiest route to level 50 is fighting something you can kill in one hit. Fighting Jr. Celion, Jr. Grupin and Jr. Lioner or Teddies should be the best option until you get to level 50+ (two hit killing monsters for 90 EXP isn't as good as killing a one hit kill monster twice[2 hits for 90 EXP; 2, 1 hit kills for 120 EXP]). Although, once you have at least Level 5 Booster and Level 10 Haste, you can try Flyeyes. The 2 hits will still be worse compared to the 1 hit of 60 EXP, but the AMAZING spawn makes up for it.

Ludi PQ EXP will start to suck around here, and it just takes too long to get in. Stick to training until you can Orbis PQ, which will give you a well deserved break and some really great EXP. A night in a forest in zipangu is also good.. Great exp with party. Paper lantern ghost 2-3 hits for 93 exp and Night fox 2-3 hits for 110 exp. Lots of scroll drops, tobi and even liu bei dagger. It's sometimes hard to find a slot there. You can stay this place till lvl 60+.

Level 50-60

Do the Ludi Maze Party quest or Monster Carnival Season 2.LMPQ is good money not so good exp MCPQ 2 is excellent exp but bad money. If you want to you can also train in FoG (Forest of Golem).

Level 55-60

If you're low dex, dexless or a Bandit you should train at FoG(Forest of Golem). If you're anyone else, do the Ludibrium Maze PQ(or Showa for MSEA players).

Level 60-70

Dummies at MuLung would be the best exp right now. If you're funded, train at Zombies or maybe FoG. Ludibrium Maze PQ should start to hurt for exp right now, so only do it if you need some extra cash for your Lv70 weapons. A favorite choice for most assasins are red drakes, since they drop steelies. But the problem is that the map is populated by fire boars and copper drakes too.

  • A final note for Assassins =3

Wherever you train, stay there and train. Don't walk around for hours looking for a spot to train on. Just find something that works, and grind there instead of wasting your time. You will train MUCH faster this way.
