Why a Crossbowman/Sniper/Marksman?

Why not be a Hunter/Ranger/Bow Master?

Here are some of the pros and cons of being a Crossbowman/Sniper/Marksman:

PROS

  • 5 more DEX then Rangers because crossbows require less STR; more DEX means more damage.
  • Arrow Eruption hits 10 mobs.
  • Frostprey freezes enemies.
  • Dragon's Breath helps push enemies away from you.
  • PA can break the damage cap.
  • Snipe instantly kills any normal enemy (does ~995k damage) and does large amounts of damage on bosses.
  • Sharp Eyes increases damage output for all party members.
  • Better mobbing class than Bow Masters

CONS

  • Weak against Ice-based monsters due to many skills being Ice-based.
  • Lower 4th job DPS on bosses than Bow Masters.
  • PA is a charge-skill.
  • Crossbow prices and scrolls are high due to presence of Wild Hunters.

Bowman

Icon Skill Name Description Type Mastered Element Prerequisites
Archer Mastery Grants proficiency in the fundamentals of Archery. Increases Accuracy, Avoidability, Range, Speed, and Max Speed. You can use the skill without consuming arrows. Passive 15 x -
Critical Shot Increases Critical Hit Rate. Passive 20 x -
Arrow Blow Shoots arrows at multiple enemies. Active 20 x -
Double Jump Allows you to double-jump to cover more distance. Double-tap the ↑,↑ arrow keys to jump once in midair. Press the ↓,↓ arrow keys to descend quickly. Supportive 10 x -

Max Level: Accuracy+225, Avoidability+225, Range+120, Movement Speed+30, Max Movement Speed:160%

A must-max skill. Range is very important for a Bowman, and the movement speed bonus makes travelling easier, while all along letting you be faster than a Lvl 70 mount (which is 150%) with some Speed equipment.

Max Level: Critical Rate+40%

Very important. Increases your DPS tremendously. I believe criticals are still +100% damage (as in initial damage + a random number in your damage range). For a more detailed explanation, you should search the web.

Some simple calculations for Critical damage:

Double Shot:

Base damage per arrow: 155%

Critical damage per arrow: 255% (not 310%)

Chance for no criticals: 60% x 60% = 36%

Damage: 310%

Chance for both criticals: 40% x 40% = 16%

Damage: 510%

Chance for 1 critical: 100% - 36% - 16% = 48%

Damage: 410%

Average damage: 310% x 36% + 510% x 16% + 410% x 48% = 111.6% + 81.6% + 196.8% = 390%

Max Level: Damage 220% on 3 enemies

While this skill may seem appealing in terms of damage, it's not worth maxing. IA does 253% on 6 enemies at level 1, which is more than double the maximum damage that Arrow Blow can hit.

Max Level: Damage 155% x2

This skill does less damage overall than Arrow Blow, but it's single-target damage is the highest out of all 1st and 2nd job skills. Therefore this skill should be maxed as it is not replaced in 2nd job.

Crossbowman

Icon Skill Name Description Type Mastered Element Prerequisites
Crossbow Mastery Increases the weapon mastery and accuracy of Crossbows. Passive 10 x -
Final Attack: Crossbow Grants a chance to deal additional damage after an attack. Must have a crossbow equipped. Passive 20 x Crossbow Mastery Lv. 3
Crossbow Booster Doubles the attack speed of your weapon. Must have a Crossbow equipped. Supportive 10 x Crossbow Mastery Lv. 5
Rangefinder When attacking nearby enemies, increases your Critical Rate; when attacking far away enemies, increases your total damage. Passive 1 x -
Soul Arrow Increases Weapon ATT and allows you to use a Crossbow without using arrows for a short time. Supportive 10 x Bow Booster Lv. 5
Net Toss Throws a net on enemies, limiting their movements and inflicting damage. Active 10 x -
Iron Arrow Fires a steel arrow that can penetrate enemy defenses. Active 20 x -
File:Physical Training.png‎ Physical Training Improves STR and DEX permanently through physical training. Passive 5 x -

Max Level: Mastery+50%, Accuracy+120

This is a MUST MAX skill. Wondering why you're doing 600 the first shot and 100 the next? That's because your damage is unstable. Mastery solves this by increasing the minimum damage you do. This skill definitely needs to be maxed.

Max Level: Proc rate: 40%, Damage 150%

Basically gives a chance to do extra damage. Neat right?

Max Level: Duration 200sec

Prerequisite: Level 5 Crossbow Mastery

This increases the casting time (the delay at the start and the end of using a skill). The effect is noticeable and it really helps to improve your DPM. In addition, it helps to pin monsters as you knockback them more often.

Max Level: MP Cost: 10, Jumps a certain distance

In first job we had Archer Mastery giving us +30 Movement Speed. In second job there's Double Jump. By tapping the jump key while in the upward motion of jumping, you can do another jump! While a level 1 Double Jump drains your MP and is short, a maxed Double Jump provides a huge boost in the speed at which you move about, and only costs 10 MP.

Max Level: Duration 300sec

Whined about running out of arrows or having to use valuable inventory slots to carry them? Soul Arrow is the answer. While we may not use as much arrows as Bowmasters (they have Hurricane), it is cumbersome to carry quivers of them around. Maxed, you can go without using arrows for 5 minutes.

Max Level: Damage 250%, Duration 180sec, Stun chance 90%

Summons an Eagle which hovers around you and deals damage.

  • Since Final Attack was maxed for damage, let's max this too!

Golden Eagle's main purpose is to unlock Frostprey, the 3rd job summon that completely and utterly replaces it. The Eagle may also unintentionally "aggro" or alert monsters and those with magic attacks may prove irritating if they are alerted. This skill of often put to the end of 2nd job.

Max Level: Damage 310%

The trademark skill of a Crossbowman. Iron Arrow outdamages all your other skills (except Double Shot when used on 1 enemy). IA isn't that slow, so it can be used to knockback several monsteres at once. The only problem with IA is that it can't fire upwards or downwards in a diagonal, limiting where you can hit your enemies from. Nevertheless, IA is the main damaging skill for 2nd job.

Max Level: STR+30, DEX+30

We need STR to equip equipment and DEX for damage. So what does this mean? The STR from this skill lets you add mroe into DEX, therefore it basically means +60DEX, which means MORE DAMAGE.
