Third Job Introduction

Thief Job Tree, with the Chief Bandit highlighted.

Finally, you're here! The long awaited 3rd job. You've learned the basics of a Thief, then you've mastered the dagger as a Bandit, and now you're looked at as a pro. The Chief Bandit, like bandits, are very fast and evasive. Chief Bandits are very strong, and have plenty of support and attacking skills.

Job Advancement Procedure

Go to El Nath - Chief Residence and speak to Arec. After talking to Arec, head back to Victoria Island and talk to Dark Lord who is located in Kerning City. Next, find the Door of Dimension located at Monkey Swamp II and it'll bring you to "The Path of the Glittering Crystal". Walk until the end of the path and enter the portal to defeat Dark Lord's dark side to obtain the Black Charm. Return to Dark Lord and exchange the Black Charm for a Necklace of Strength. Return to El Nath after that and give the item to Arec. Head on to the Holy Ground at the Snowfield (Sharp Cliff II). One Dark Crystal is required to answer 5 questions to obtain the Necklace of Wisdom. Again, head back to Arec in El Nath and give him the Necklace of Wisdom. Congratulations, you're a Chief Bandit!

Job Analysis

Pros

  • Savage Blow remains a powerful skill.
  • With Meso Explosion, you can make Boss Fights rather easy.
  • Assaulter is a VERY powerful skill, especially when maxed, with a damage of 450%. (Not as powerful as SB though, unless the monster has a weapon def higher than 5% of your attack)
  • Assaulter also has a fantastic range, enabling you to use it and land on a ledge higher then you.
  • You can use Meso Explosion and Pickpocket together in combination quite beautifully.
  • Band of Thieves has a mobbing capability, thus making encounters with Mobs easier.
  • Chakra, using your MP, can restore a certain percent of your HP.
  • Meso Guard is a wonderful skill designed to protect you from a great deal of damage, and death.

Cons

  • Expensive to maintain.
  • Meso Explosion, especially during Boss Fights, may drain a ton of your Mesos.
  • Assaulter requires a Monster in order to be used.
  • Chakra can only be used if your HP is under 50% of its Max.
  • Shield Mastery is by far the most useless skill, especially since you will most likely learn Meso Guard.
  • Daggers and Dagger scrolls are among the most expensive in the game.

Stat Distribution

The stat distribution is the same as before, so there's no need to worry about this. Just keep your DEX at Your Level times 2, until level 40, when you can leave it at your level +40, and everything else goes into LUK! Always do dex levels last, so you get the power of luk faster, and dex only when needed.

  • LUK: +5 for four levels
  • DEX: +5 for one level

For a LUK bandit, after level 40, new weapons are earned every 10 levels, so your build would be better like this:

  • LUK: +5 for 8 levels
  • DEX: +5 for 2 levels

Level 70: 110 DEX, 260 LUK

Level 80: 120 DEX, 300 LUK

Level 90: 130 DEX, 340 LUK

Level 100: 140 DEX, 380 LUK

Level 110: 150 DEX, 420 LUK

Keep in mind, if you are a STR Bandit, to keep your STR at the minimum required for your next possible Dagger.

A low dex build involves adding less dex than needed and rely on equipment dex to give them the required dex for the next level's equipment. Most commonly, items such as Zakum Helmets or dex scrolled capes are used for the needed dex. It should be noted that when equipping a top or pants, the dex from your current top and bottom doesnt count towards total dex.

Dexless bandits simply leave their dex at 25 or reset it back to 4, and avoid using equips with required dex. After level 110, they will become extremely weak unless they are MEGA funded (As in billions of mesos, 15 attack work gloves, 120 att nebula, 20 att maple shield, ETC.)

Some users choose to cap their DEX somewhere between level 80~110, but it is not wise as you need 150 DEX for your Level 110 equipment.

EDIT by koreahk: As a Chief Bandit, I have found it better to cap my DEX at around 100 or earlier, but if you aren't funded enough to get a couple of DEX items or a Zakum Helmet, then you shouldn't cap your DEX. Capping my DEX has made me stronger because I can add the rest of the points into LUK. Some DEX items can be: PAC(Pink Adventurer Cape):5-10 DEX is good. EARRING:5+ DEX TOP:10+ DEX BOTTOM: 10+ DEX SHOES:5+ DEX ZAKUM HELMET So if you have these items, you can get enough DEX to equip a better dagger. REMEMBER* ONLY CAP YOUR DEX IF YOU HAVE ITEMS TO COVER UP FOR THE MISSING DEX!

  • 20 Pickpocket
  • 30 Band of Thieves
  • 20 Meso Guard
  • 21 Chakra

KOREAHK'S BUILD Personally, I wouldn't choose the above build. Why? Because I would rather add BoT as it is our mob skill as well Meso Explosion another mob skill too and it would help training faster. Assaulter is useful but it's slow. I would get one in assaulter and then max BoT and Meso Guard first. Meso guard will help so you don't burn potions as much and prevent dying. On my Chief Bandit, I got 4 Assaulter(mistake my cousin made adding 3) around 10 MG, 11 BoT, 3 Chakra, and 1 ME. If you are going ME build, don't read this.

  • Fixed Skill Build, it was atrocious, the math was added incorrectly, thus ruining the whole build. The build is correct now, and ends with 21 Chakra, as it should, opposed to 19, when this build was typed inaccurately. TheGamePhreak 14:28, 19 November 2007 (CST)
  • Note: If you have the money, you can train at Deep Sea Gorge II, on the gobys in the bombing fish houses. To do this, add 1 meso explosion first, then drop 17 bags of 1101 mesos in front of a bombing fish house. Explode the first set of mesos, and when the gobies appear, explode them also. This is great exp (8.4k per house), though costs add up from Meso Guard (required if you don't have auto-hp), pots (you need 2000 HP recovering pots) and obviously, the actual explosion. Costs add up to 4mil per level at level 71, increasing with level. If you put pickpocket to 1, you have level 3 meso explode, so drop only 16 bags of 999. This can be great because with 2x exp you get 1 level per day. Also, if you try this training spot, you may want to add BoT first, so around 85 you can switch to mobs in deep ludi.

Places To Train

Below are some recommended places where you could train, and monsters of which you should train on.

Level 70-80

It is now the time for the 3rd job. You can try out monsters like Soul Teddys and Yeti & Pepe, or you can dish out some sweet damage at Tauromacis. Most people just decide to stay at Coolie Zombies. EDIT August 14,2009:

Wind Raiders: I trained at Windraiders as they give 800 EXP each. I recommend only training here if you have Meso Guard because they deal around 500 damage without it. I would also get BoT here as it helps your training.

Selkie Jr. & Slimy: I trained here for a little. Highly recommended for BoT builded CBs. Spawn rate is highest in the game and mass mobs. Exp is ok.

FoG: Good Spawn and the golems are slow. Good for BoT CBs again because of good spawns and the mobs.

EDIT 10/11/2009: Elderwraiths: Get in Dark Sight, drop 10 bags of 1.4k mesos and bomb (with Meso Explosion 1). You should go to the map that can be accesed by pressing up in a sign at the map just before the jump quest. Always try to kill 6 of them at once, if you do so you'll get ~0.50 exp. The fastest exp you can get at these levels. It's quite expensive, but if you have a store permit you can sell the etc drops, and you'll earn money instead of losing it (they take a while to sell tough). It's recommended to go with at least 1 Meso Guard, as their attack is very high.

Headless Horseman: You may want to kill him if you find him (yes, he's lvl 101 and he's a boss, but you can anyways). Get in Dark Sight, drop ~100k mesos in bags of 2k, bomb, repeat till he's dead. It'll take ~1m and you'll get 300k exp, more than 10% at these levels. Yes, he HAS magic attacks, but he wont use them if you're in Dark Sight. Recommended at least 1 Meso Guard so he doesn't 1HKO you.

Level 80-90

As you are gaining strength, you may want to try Dual Ghost Pirates or Bains, or stay at Yeti & Pepe. You may also try Squids in your late 80s.

EDIT August 14,2009 Typhons: By far... the greatest EXP in this level. 3200 exp each kill and by this time, you should have BoT and MG. They do less damage than Windraiders. They have a magic attack which can kick you off the map but if you train here a bit, you will get to know the spot where they can't push you off and you can just mob them all for easy exp.

Wolf Spiders: Strong, good drops, good exp. You get 1200 exp each kill here. They drop Ilbis, Blue Screamers, Scarabs, and other items.

Level 90-120

As you gain more and more strength, you can experiment on what you wish to train on. You can even go for Dark Yeti & Pepe, Zakum, Pianus. You can try Cold Shark, and the Gate Keeper.
