Notes

  • It is impossible to stack different skills' poison effects on top of each other (for example, Poison Bomb won't apply its purple poison effect at the same time the mages' green one). The skill with the highest level will take precedence. In the event of matched levels, the first skill to affect the monster will run its course before the other skill can poison it. This is to prevent a continuous re-poisoning of a monster between two poison (or fire, in the case of Flame Gear) clouds.
  • Poison never kills its victim in Maplestory--it only brings its HP to 1. This still makes Fire/Poison Mages engines of destruction on poison-friendly maps.
  • Skills such as Venom or Venomous Stab can stack their poison effects and last a shorter time than Fire/Poison Mages' poison-based skills. The percentages above do NOT apply to these skills.
  • You can test this yourself--if you watch carefully (best done using Poison Breath to avoid re-poisoning the target), the number of times damage is applied is actually often the duration according to the skill level plus one, meaning that the damage in the third column above is actually lower than what tends to occur. Here's why:

"Maxed Poison Breath does 1062 damage per second to a bonefish. 1062* 40 = 42480, 20 less than the 42500 bonefish have. The extra hit is to account for rounding."

  • This damage formula applies to both Fire Curtain and Fire Demon. Fire Curtain does not hit an extra time for rounding until it is maxed, however.

Calculations and the above quote were taken from ThunderStrike's post on the Sleepywood forums(and found via Ayumilove's blog post).
