Introduction

Bowman Job Tree, with the Crossbowman indicated in red.

Welcome to AznObama's Crossbow Man Guide. Here I will tell you how to build your Crossbow Man to be the best in Maplestory.

Why be a Crossbowman

Crossbowmen are dependant on DEX for their Attack and fortunately, DEX gives you Accuracy so therefore Crossbowmen (And Hunters) hunt higher monsters earlier than any other class.

  • Why not be a Hunter then?

Here are a few pros and cons:

PROS

  • A crossbowman gets more DEX even if there is a hunter with the exact same Equipment because Crossbowmen need less STR to equip their corresponding levels' weapon.
  • The skill Iron Arrow looks very nice and attracts more attention than the Arrow Bomb because at the beginning of Iron Arrow, a whole bunch of blue light is built up at your arrow whereas Arrow Bomb just fires an arrow like normal really quickly. Very good skill to show-off.
  • Iron Arrow has more range than Arrow Bomb.
  • Iron Arrow goes through walls unlike Arrow Bomb.
  • Crossbowmen are the least common class, which is surprisingly a good thing. This means that all equipment and armor have lower offers in FM.
  • Iron Arrow has higher MAX. damage than Arrow Bomb.
  • 4th Job Skill, Sniping, can do over 9,999,999 damage, no matter how weird your AP is. Whereas the Bow Masters signature skill, Hurricane cant do even 1% of that. (But Sniping only does 199,999 damage for bosses, not counting the weapon defense.)
  • 4th Job Skill, Piercing, is the highest MAX damaging mob control in the whole of Maplestory (before the Aran. Its similar to Iron Arrow but the shot must be charged up or the MAX damage is less.

CONS

  • Iron Arrow does not stun like Arrow Bomb, but the 3rd Job Skill, Blizzard, covers this disadvantage.
  • Crossbowmen tend to have weapons that are slower than that of the Hunters, which means that during mobbing, Hunters still might KS you (but in my opinion, if you have higher damage than your Kill-Stealer, you would have a chance of 1HKO (1 Hit Kill)).

Crossbowmen Skills

Job Advancement

Finally, you've mastered the basics of a bowman and its time for another set of skills. To make the second job advancement, talk to Athena Pierce in Henesys and she will give you a letter for the Bowman Instructor, found at the upper right side of the Road to the Dungeon. Before you arrive there, make sure you have a fair few potions ready (the recommended are 70-80 Orange Potions). After talking to the job instructor, you will be teleported to a place like the Ant Tunnel. There are two types of monsters inside: Zombie Mushroom 2 and Evil Eye 2. They are like normal Zombie Mushrooms and Evil Eyes but hit about 70+ damage on you. Collect 30 Dark Marbles by defeating these monsters. You will have to kill around 60-70 (if your lucky, you'll only need to kill 40 or 45, but if you are unlucky, you will have to kill about 100-110, BUT YOU DO NOT GET EXP FROM THESE MONSTERS !!!!! After that, talk to the job instructor and you will be awarded a 'Proof of a Hero'. Go back to Henesys and talk to Athena Pierce. Choose Crossbowman and then confirm your choice. Congratulations! You are now a Crossbowman, and have just proceeded into your second job advancement!

The Crossbowman AP Build

For Crossbowmen, all you need to know is that to be able to equip weapons and armor, your need to have equal STR to your level.

Here's how it would go:

  • Level 30 - 30 STR, 130 DEX
  • Level 35 - 35 STR, 150 DEX
  • Level 40 - 40 STR, 170 DEX
  • Level 45 - 45 STR, 190 DEX
  • Level 50 - 50 STR, 210 DEX
  • Level 55 - 55 STR, 230 DEX
  • Level 60 - 60 STR, 250 DEX
  • Level 65 - 65 STR, 270 DEX
  • Level 70 - 70 STR, 290 DEX

At the end of my custom build, your SP should be assigned like the following:

  • 30 Iron Arrow
  • 20 Crossbow Booster
  • 20 Crossbow Master
  • 20 Soul Arrow: Crossbow
  • 20 Power Knock-back
  • 9 Focus (but in my build I chose for my 1st Job, my Focus was on 20 (MAXED).)

Monsters to Train On

Levels 30-35:

  • Wild Boars and Evil Eyes give great EXP. The Land of Wild Boar and Wild Boar II have good spawns of Wild Boar. Evil Eyes can be found right outside Sleepywood. I recommend to train on Wild Boars because even though they give 8 EXP less per kill, they drop your lvl 32 crossbow, Eagle Crow. If you are low on money, go to the Orbis Tower, 1st floor and kill the Jr. Sentinels. They give really bad EXP seeing that it has 50 MORE HP than Wild Boars, but give 2 less EXP pre kill. Thats around 6k EXP lost every hour!!! Ant Tunnels near Sleepywood are also good, they provide good EXP and also you could more than likely 1HKO them. You can combine with the quests from the Rememberer and after 999 kills (which is a lot), you will earn free pots, which means that you can use those pots to continue to do the quest again and again.

Levels 35-40:

  • The Burnt Land I is a very good training spot in these levels. They have a super high spawn of Fire Boars (not too many that you couldn't control) and some good Dark Axe Stumps. Ant Tunnels are great with the Rememberer quests. In these levels you should always 1HKO them and if you dont, I suggest you make a new character. Jr. Kitties (Grupin, Lioner and Cellions) give good EXP and drop Pan Lids (which you can sell for about 1mil-2mil) and 60% Scroll for Crossbow for ATT, which is a good for your WATK (Weapon Attack), but in these maps, there aren't any sniping platforms so you will just have to find a spot and Iron Arrow. CPQ (Monster Carnival) is a good place to train in these levels seeing that if you win with >500CP, you gain 30k EXP!!! That's a lot!!! If you win with 250-499 CP, you earn 25.5k EXP which is still great. (30k EXP is 17.3% EXP at lvl 35, but the PQ only takes 10 minutes and if you were training, you wouldn't be able to earn 30k EXP in 10 minutes.) Other monsters to train on would be Drumming Bunnies. They drop Red Whips which is worth around 5.5-7mil in FM, a nice boost to your Inventory.

Levels 40-45:

  • Now its time to move past Burnt Land I and go to Burnt lands II and III, filled with Iron Hogs and Iron Boars. These Iron monsters have high weapon ATT and high weapon DEF respectively, making them hard targets. The Jr. Kitties are still nice and you might wanna change from Jr. Sentinels to Leatty and Dark Leatty (not solely for money, but also for EXP, although they drop Blue Moons). Try Chronos' but i recommend to stay away from Platoon Chronos' and Master Chronos'. They drop magician shield, Esther Shield which is also a good boost to your Inventory. CPQ in these levels are alright but I recommend LPQ (Ludibrium Party Quest). If you were to do CPQ, you would probably get 30k everytime, but 30k isn't a lot!!! In LPQ you get around 1/3 on average on each stage, with 8 stages. There is also a chance that you might find an earring, a cape or some scrolls, again, great to your Inventory.

Levels 45-50:

  • Copper Drakes are very nice for these levels and they drop Dragon Skin which are also very highly priced in FM. Stone Golems and Block Golems are good for these levels. They are slow and since we are ranged, we would probably kill them before they get to us. Zombie Lupins are good for these levels. In Monkey forest II, there are heaps of sniping platforms and I mean HEAPS. The Cursed Dolls they drop could also be used for Rowen's quests. Master Chronos' are good at these levels and if you've ever done CPQ in room 5/6 with some pro summoners, you would have realised that Master Chronos' are really difficult. This is wrong. They are only hard in the CPQ because along with the monster itself, the other team also summons Protectors making them difficult. in reality, Master Chronos are just like Zombie Lupins. If you haven't gotten the Broken Glasses yet, you might want to keep going with LPQ. You will be receiving many invitations because in LPQ ranged characters are needed and Bowmen have the best range out of all the classes.

Levels 50-55:

  • Fire Drakes give nice EXP and they also drop Steelies, which sell for about 8-10 mil, a great boost to your Inventory. Pixies are good monsters to train off, but always have some All Cure Potions stocked up before you go. Stone Golems and Mixed Golems give easy EXP and since they are slow, you will find leveling very easy. These levels should suit hunting Jr. Yeti. They have good spawn rate right outside El Nath and they also drop 60% Scroll for Gloves for ATT, which sell for about 8-10mil. Since their spawn ground is located right outside El Nath, you can repot easily, and you should also (if you can) buy some Snowshoes, scrolled with some DEX if possible. Sakura Cellion in Amoria also has good EXP even though they give less each kill ( This is because they have lower HP and higher spwan rate).

Levels 55-60:

  • Coolie and Minor Zombies are very good to train on in these levels. they give high amounts of EXP and are normally trained on until about lvl 80 or 90. If you have nothing to do, keep killing Jr. Yeti for the 60% Scroll for Gloves for ATT. Pixies are all good in these levels since they have great spawn rates.

Levels 60-65:

  • Drake's Meal Table has a good spawn rate of Wild Cargo's, Drakes and Cold Eyes. Coolie Zombies are also good but remember the Snowshoes and the All Cure Potions. You should probably stay here for the whole 5 levels, unless you want to do other quest. The Forest of Golem is also a great to train al there are many easy-to-kill Golems and if the spawn gets too high, PKB ( Power Knock-back) comes kicking in. Luster Pixies are good for training and the way to them also have good monsters that are easy-to-kill (Star Pixies, Lunar Pixies, Faeries, Nependeath and Dark Nependeath.

Levels 65-70:

  • Hectors in Leafre are good EXP and Zombies are still very good for fast leveling. Taurospears and Tauromacis in the Sanctuaries are good and if you also want a challenge when you get bored from killing Tauros, go all the way to the right and channel surf for the Jr. Balrog (Jr. Balrog isn't very hard to kill because it has only 50k HP. Should be a breeze for all classes. Go for the Jr. Yetis, Dark Jr. Yeti's, Hectors, White Fangs, Werewolves, Lycanthropes, Yetis, Dark Yetis, Pepe, Dark Pepe, Yeti and Pepe, Dark Yeti and Pepe, Transforming Jr. Yetis and Transforming Dark Jr. Yetis on your way to the Zombies, you never know what might drop.

End

Now you have mastered the skills of a Crossbow Man and its time for the 3rd Job. Should you want to continue with my guides, this is the title: AznObama's Sniper Guide.
