Sometimes, you may experience glitches that don't look right, errors when starting MapleStory, and the dreaded GR2D error. This guide will offer you a variety of solutions to help resolve the issues.

Glitches

Glitches vary very often. Sometimes, glitches may occur when you alt+tab out of the game and then alt+tab back in. First off, glitches are very bad in nature, but they can be resolved. They can vary in many ways, including a distorted background, flashing monsters, flashing characters, characters having no names, no hair / items, and more. These are all glitches and there is a high chance you can get it fixed by updating your drivers. To update your drivers, read below.

Finding out what Video Card you have

1. Press Start on your taskbar.

2. Right click on My Computer and press Properties.

3. Press Hardware at the top.

4. Press the button Device manager

5. Find something named Display Adapter and press the [+] button next to it.

6. The first sub item underneath Display Adapter should be your video card. There should only be one. Right click on that video card and press Properties.

7. Press the Driver tab up on the top and check who your provider is. Common Providiers are ATI and nVidia. If you get Microsoft as your drivers provider, then you definitely need to update your graphics driver, go to 7a. Otherwise, go to step 8.

7a. To view what graphics driver you have if you have Microsoft as your drivers provider, do what it says in step 6 except do not press on properties. See what the name of the item is, it should say something like nVidia Geforce 7800GT, or ATI Radeon 9800, or etc. Generally, the first word is the provider, the second would be the type of video card it is. But, if the name of your graphics card is something like Generic Video Card, you will need to call up your computer provider to see what it really is.

Failed in finding proper screen mode for "Gr2D" on the screen.

MapleStory uses a 3D and 2D graphics engine to display characters and other elements. But, the GR2D feature only exists in higher versions of DirectX and video cards. By default, old versions of Windows XP and Windows versions before that do not have Gr2D enabled.

Solution

To resolve this issue, download the most updated version of DirectX, which is DirectX 9.0C. This may be obtained at Windows Update.

Note: You must have a GENUINE version of Windows to download updates. If you purchased Windows XP or have a computer purchased from Dell or another computer provider, most likely you will have a genuine copy of Windows. Otherwise, you will be unable to obtain DirectX.

Signal Out of Range

MapleStory runs at a very small range. Sometimes, people have corrupted their Maplestory settings causing MapleStory to run in a frequency completely out of range!

Solution

To resolve this issue, go to your MapleStory directory (Commonly located at c:/program files/wizet/maplestory) and run setup.exe. This will resolve your out of range issue.
