Things I am:
- An editor - this means I make edits to many pages, sometimes systematically, sometimes random.
- A student - I cannot devote all of my time to the wiki, but I can devote some time.
Things I claim to be:
- An infobox curator - I have designed most of the current infoboxes that sit across thousands of pages.
- A userbox curator - I have tidied up all of the current userboxes to help newer editors use them correctly.
- Somewhat knowledgeable - I know some extensive functions, but I am still learning myself.
Things I am not:
- A sysop/admin - I do not have the powers to do anything anybody else cannot do. So I won't be deleting pages, but I will mark them.
- A teacher - I can give general guidelines, but I cannot teach you how to edit the wiki.
- A Magic 8 Ball - I do not have every answer, but I can try. Send me a message and I'll see what I can do.

Hello!
To be honest, I haven't been on this site in ages myself, been to busy with work and studies, which is why I resigned my position as admin several months ago. To answer your question, the site went into shambles due to a combination of a lack of administration (after Yongjianrong went inactive), a gradually decreasing flow of new users (though there are still some new users that are contributing boatloads to this dead wiki, you can look at the recent changes for their names), many old editors gradually losing interest, and of course; the huge amount of huge updates such as Big Bang, Chaos, Jump, and Legend; making it extremely difficult to reedit many things.
Im glad there are still people on this wiki that might be able to make a difference. ^^
To explain my inactivity, Ive made several real life commitments (going to Law School, getting married, etc.) which in the end, made me completely forget about the wiki. I wish I had had the time to edit, but as things have it, I just don't have time. Depending on how things go, I might go back to editing (albeit minor) when the school year starts again.
Yao12310 13:34, 30 July 2011 (CDT)
- Ah, okay. Thank you very much for the update! Congratulations on your accomplishments IRL and hopefully I'll see you around the wiki. :) Kitten Tale 13:58, 30 July 2011 (CDT)
Hello to you
Yea, I've been doing plenty of mass updating here and I look forward to see more people helping, I wish i can edit the main page though. And if you can make another infobox for weapons, items, skills and such, that'd be great. Thank you. ~ToaArrol
- I will be looking at what each category needs, and hopefully will get a rough outline at what is needed for each. I will probably be leaving my notes on my User page on what is needed. I would like to collaborate with you as well as other active wiki people on the focus of the wiki. Hopefully Stephen makes an active user an admin, and we can take care of sorting the Main Page together. Kitten Tale 20:44, 31 July 2011 (CDT)
- That's good to know. Hopefully me or you would make an excellent admin. Thank you. ~ToaArrol
Monster Infobox
I just saw your new Monster infobox. It's very good overall, but how are you planning on incorporating both the Pre- and Post-Big Bang information? Some versions of MS are updated and others aren't, so for now we're keeping both sets of stats/drops/locations/etc. The simplest solution would probably be to have two copies of the infobox per page. This would be both relatively quick to set up and quick to take down (once all versions get the Big Bang, I don't see why we should keep both sets of information). -- Owlepicurus 11:12, 1 August 2011 (CDT)
- If we have any outdated information, we can slap a big ol' Big Bang notice at the top of the page. All information is focused on their individual pages, thus it's only a few keystrokes away from correcting the information. Kitten Tale 11:15, 1 August 2011 (CDT)
- It's not just a matter of updating outdated information. We need both sets of information on the page. See Grupin, for example. It has all of the information for both before and after the Big Bang. Most monster pages don't already have both sets because the wiki is just that out-of-date. -- Owlepicurus 11:24, 1 August 2011 (CDT)
- Why are both sets of information needed? How do we benefit from having outdated information on the page? Kitten Tale 11:28, 1 August 2011 (CDT)
- EMS has not had the Big Bang yet, so the new information is useless to all EMS players. I think most people using the wiki are from GMS, but there are some people from other versions of MS, including EMS. We can remove the old information once all versions of MS have had the Big Bang. -- Owlepicurus 11:33, 1 August 2011 (CDT)
- I see. Well, I haven't updated any pages which have dual stats, but given the number of Monster pages, those with dual stats can be given the GMS information in the infobox, and we can leave the old stats in the main article. When they receive the Big Bang, that old information can either be deleted, or archived in a new page. Kitten Tale 11:38, 1 August 2011 (CDT)
- According to the Big Bang article, EMS has gotten the Big Bang patch. Are you sure it's still Pre-Big Bang? Kitten Tale 11:42, 1 August 2011 (CDT)
- I just googled it, and it looks like EMS is in the process of getting it (the first update happened on July 21st). Figures that the news would break when I didn't have access to the internet... So yes, I guess we can get rid of the Pre Big Bang information. Sorry about that. -- Owlepicurus 11:49, 1 August 2011 (CDT)
- No worries! And if we need it, we can always look in the article histories. Thank you for calling me on that though - this is only my fourth day on this wiki, and about my 10th day actually playing the game, so I lack a lot of actual gameplay information. Kitten Tale 12:23, 1 August 2011 (CDT)
- Please note, new updates are coming approximately every 6 months, many of which will reult in more new information. Once all versions have a certain update, a new update will come, and that version will be outdated. For example, KMS had Big Bang 6 months before GMS, and had Chaos at the same time GMS had Big Bang. And that's not all, more and more updates are coming, such as Jump, or legend, both of which will not be arriving in other versions besides KMS for as long as a year. Massive updates are coming too often and decreasing the efficiency of editing. Yao12310 15:43, 14 August 2011 (CDT)
- I'm editing as per GMS, so I am not contributing to all versions of MapleStory. I thank you for the heads up though. Kitten Tale 15:56, 14 August 2011 (CDT)
Quest Infobox?
Would it be possible to create a quest infobox after you're done with the other ones? It would probably need to include what type of quest it is (item collection, talking to an NPC, "jump" quest); the requirements for starting the quest; NPCs, areas, and towns involved; number of steps; and rewards. The procedure would need to be outlined in the body of the page, as well as the break out of rewards per step (the reward listed in the infobox would be all of the rewards from each step added together). Quests with only one step would only need the procedure. Some quests are repeatable, so there would also need to be a way to indicate that. Here are a sample quests for reference:
- I will need to look into it, but the NPC Stock infobox will have priority (I am currently having an issue with it, which needs to be resolved immediately). I will be making notes on my user page regarding your request though. If you find anything missing regarding any other current infobox, please send me a note like you just did. I will not be actively checking Recent Changes, so will miss notes left on their respective pages.
- (PS: Remember to sign your comments! [~~~~]) Kitten Tale 18:10, 4 August 2011 (CDT)
- Fixing up the wiki is a long term project, and I just thought it was something you might consider doing once the other infoboxes are done.
- Also, sorry about the signature. I usually include it; I must have just spaced it that time. -- Owlepicurus 16:59, 9 August 2011 (CDT)
Those Other Templates?
Why are you making those item templates, such as bandanas and class hats. Couldn't we just class themin with the common hats catergory? I kinda don't see the point in those.
- (First, and I'm not trying to pick on you, but could you sign your comments (four tildes [~~~~])? It helps me figure out who's saying what.)
- I made those templates, because I know that some people may be like me in the sense that they want to see other colors something comes in, such as bandanas. With these templates, players can see the full color spectrum a certain thing comes in (Snowboards, Skis, bandanas, etc). Visual appeal can sometimes be better than just making a giant list of things, which is what I see the Common weapons and common armors templates as.
- These templates also only apply to armors/weapons that come in multiple styles. One-of-a-kind armors and weapons won't be getting their own template.
- I also would like to expand upon these templates even further, and include entire sets as templates, to compliment the individual item boxes. Kitten Tale 19:10, 7 August 2011 (CDT)
Welcome!
Hi! I see you have been editing on this wiki quite a bit! Thanks for the effort! I will be becoming more active very soon :P Kennytran4 17:27, 9 August 2011 (CDT) Template:Kennytran4

Look well my pirority right now is monster information and using your infoboxes but after that i'll work on equipment. I'm not known to be consistent with my work, however there is so much information that needs to be updated, and it is tedious work. Thank you for the infoboxes, they are very helpful. Maybe, could it be possible that you could start developing other boxes like quests, npcs, and other things as well? (possibly even develop skill infoboxes)
Kennytran4 05:31, 17 August 2011 (CDT) Template:Kennytran4
PS: Thanks for the infobox formatting! I'm not good with wikicode (or any coding for that matter). Would you like some brainstorming ideas for potential info boxes (on your user page?)
- Location infobox: List of maps in the area/Maps in a link/Monsters in area (side note: will it be in sections like Category:Pasture??
- Quest infobox: NPCs involved/chain quests/multiple reward quests/jump quests/drop quests/events/others...
- Currently, the following are completed and can be used at leisure:
- * NPC infobox
- * Shop NPC infobox
- * Monster infobox
- * Quest item infobox (subpage)
- * Item infobox
- The NPC Stock infobox is still in development, but should work for general stores/food vendors.
- The infoboxes you listed are planned, but I've been busy all over the field with uploading new information. Everything really does need help. Kitten Tale 12:37, 17 August 2011 (CDT)
Just seeing the new infobox your working on, looks good :D Kennytran4 02:26, 18 August 2011 (CDT) Template:Kennytran4
- Thanks! I'm guessing you're referring to the Drop Table infobox, which I feel is helpful, but with one major down-side: all files need to be uploaded in .png format, and listed as their page name (Ex. Bullet would have to be Bullet.png). Kitten Tale 02:32, 18 August 2011 (CDT)
- Could you develop a bot which would do tedious work? (example: place updated infoboxes?) Kennytran4 02:55, 18 August 2011 (CDT)
- Unfortunately, I am not a bot programmer, so I would have to find one online. Also, I (as well as anyone else) would need the webmaster's/Stephen's consent to run a bot. A bot would be a lot faster and more efficient, but I don't have the resources for one, nor do I have the permission to use one if I did find the software. Kitten Tale 02:57, 18 August 2011 (CDT)
- Basically it is a useless trait: http://www.maplewiki.net/index.php?title=Hands
- Thanks for the help! Kitten Tale 16:50, 18 August 2011 (CDT)
- Could you break these one on top of another? Honestly I can not be bothered making 2 more articles for the same object that has a time expiry date. Kennytran4 17:13, 18 August 2011 (CDT) --http://www.maplewiki.net/index.php?title=Agent_C%27s_Disposable_Receiver
- Interesting. If you wanted all three infoboxes, the easy way to do it would be to add {{clear}} after each template.
- In this case, however, if you don't want to make separate pages, I would leave out the bonuses, and make a section in the main article listing the various stats. I'll see if I can make some modifications to make that more clear (that stats may vary). Kitten Tale 17:23, 18 August 2011 (CDT)
- Could you extend the infobox for NPC Price and Obtained? It just looks messy with the NPC Price and Obtained as headings and everything else in the infobox Kennytran4 02:32, 19 August 2011 (CDT)
- I would prefer not to, because it's extra work that wouldn't make it any cleaner. I'm not going to be as active in a few days, so my contributions will be sporadic. I see infoboxes as "This information is the most important", so keeping that in mind, NPC value and Obtain information is not important enough to justify it. Kitten Tale 03:09, 19 August 2011 (CDT)
- Yes I know I was lazy to do it, I was wanting to complete all the earrings today, then go over and check every thing again. Kennytran4 16:42, 19 August 2011 (CDT)
- Wow, when I uploaded the new version, it said it was a duplicate file, then I checked it to see ToaArrol already uploaded it! Kennytran4 17:40, 19 August 2011 (CDT)
- I think you forgot to add transparency - it still has a black background. No worries; I'm almost done with the Drop Template infobox, so I can re-upload it for you. Kitten Tale 17:54, 19 August 2011 (CDT)
- No you misunderstood me, I was going to reupload it WITH transparency, but then the wiki found out that the file that i was uploading was a DUPLICATE to another file that ToaArrol uploaded, so I used his one instead. Kennytran4 17:58, 19 August 2011 (CDT)
- Oh! Okay, I see now. I went to the same file name and didn't see transparency, so that threw me off. Kitten Tale 18:01, 19 August 2011 (CDT)
- Do you think we should make more templates like this? Template:Warrior Polearms Kennytran4 01:41, 20 August 2011 (CDT)
- Categories are automatic, so don't add any categories that could be made automatic, or are already automatic. That particular template can be placed on the "Category:Warrior pole arms" page, so it's still welcome, but not so much as page information. Kitten Tale 11:44, 20 August 2011 (CDT)
- http://www.maplewiki.net/index.php?title=MapleWiki:Project_Infoboxes Kennytran4 02:53, 21 August 2011 (CDT)
- Have you seen that site yet? It has some more categories and needs formatting later. I can ask Yong ot put it on the homepage (since i have him on msn) Kennytran4 21:46, 29 August 2011 (CDT)
Skill Infobox?
You think a Skill infobox would be useful? I just thought about it. The Skill infobox could have the following.
- Icon
- Skill Animation
- Prerequisite
- Job Type
- Master Level
- Combat Orders usable
- Type of Ability
ToaArrol
I need help.
How can I make an infobox myself? I got some ideas and I'd love to try. ~ToaArrol
Alright, I'll try to give you a little tutorial as to how they work.
Infoboxes require three things:
- The opening code, which can be copied and edited to a color scheme of your choice, as well as size and whatnot. The opening sets the tone for the rest of the box, making it the most important part.
- The title, and middle information. Self explanatory.
- The ending. The ending is the second-most important part, because if you don't end it, it can potentially consume the entire page, depending on where it is.
The opening code can be copied from any other boxes. Don't feel shy to copy - it's perfectly okay.
Here's an example of the opening code:
{| style="margin: 0 0 0.5em 1em; border:1px solid silver; float:right; text-align:left; font-size:90%; background-color:white;" cellpadding="10"
! colspan="2" style="font-size:110%; text-align:center; background-color:#c0c0c0; width:80%" | {{{name|{{PAGENAME}}}}}
|-
To understand this correctly, please carefully note these differences:
- {{{ (three brackets) indicates that the particular area is input. So {{{name}}} means that it will take the direct value of name, from the template.
| name =
- {{ (two brackets) indicates that the information is a template. The exceptions are hardwired code, such as {{PAGENAME}}.
Remember these differences, because if you include a lot of brackets, you need to pay attention to how many brackets are still open.
Middle code is usually uniform, but I'll show you another excerpt:
|- valign="top"
{{ #if: {{{level|}}} |
! style="background-color:#c0c0c0;" {{!}} Level{{#if:{{{level2|}}}|s}}
{{!}} [[{{{level}}}]]{{#if:
{{{level2|}}}
|<br>[[{{{level2}}}]]
}}
}}
- Here, we go into parser functions. Parser functions cover various things, but mainly we use 'if' statements.
{{ #if: | is the main parser function. The way to read this is:
- Create a row. If there is a value in level, create a header box and a second box, and add the value to the second box. If there is a second value (level2), make a break and include the second value.
Note about Parser functions: They can be tricky, mainly because of the placement of vertical lines (|). Notice how you see things such as {{!}}. These act as vertical lines in certain situations. Every instance where you would need a regular vertical line needs to be replaced with that template. Note how the first one is still a vertical line - this is because it's giving us a situation that's possible if "level" has a value.
Parser functions are basically {{#name:value1|value1|value2}}. With this statement, it's {{#if:{{{value1|}}}|value1}}. This vertical line separates the thing it's looking for, with the first situation.
Note: HTML, Parser functions, and Wiki syntax are all interchangeable (you can make your tables in just HTML). If you want to code in just HTML, you can do that as well. I use wiki, simply because it's more visual.
After repeating the middle for as many times as you need, you need to remember to end it with |}, or close it with </table> if you're using just HTML.
I hope that helps. Kitten Tale 17:34, 1 September 2011 (CDT)
Thank you
Thank for the tips. I decided to start a bit small, so I made a edit on the monster drop table, adding a separate recipe list.
You can look it over if you like. http://www.2shared.com/document/qcNojcoI/droptable2.html
Glasses clarification
They had glasses for separate years, every year had two glasses: one time-limited, then one permanent. Permanent glasses are obtained by getting in the top 10 I think.

Hi, Maple Taurus Here.
Thanks for the warm welcome. I was excited to contribute to this wiki, even though I'm -relatively- new to Maplestory, however I've come across a problem. For some reason or another I completely despise the infoboxes. Accessing the wiki pages with infoboxes via my Ipod forces me to A) Zoom in in order to read the text (not the problem considering I do this with nearly every webpage) and B) Scroll to the right in order to access the information as opposed to scrolling DOWNWARDS, which is by far the more natural motion for me. Another thing is that the category system automatically maintained by the infoboxes is nigh on useless when categorized by alphabet. The entire purpose of this wiki is to provide helpful information when I want it IE. most probably when I need to find a new piece of equipment better for my level. This doesn't work when I don't even know the name of the thing I want. This is why I do lists by level, they are by far more helpful. There are some infoboxes at the bottom of pages that do list by level somewhat, but these only do so in level ranges, which isn't quite the same. I'm afraid I cannot contribute to this wiki if I am forced to use those infoboxes, and I am so sorry, I wish you luck with your attempt to improve this wiki. --MapleTaurus 08:41, 14 September 2011 (CDT)
