Party Search Function

UPDATED

In GMS, the new updated party function now allows for searching for party quests listed by named party quests. Note that to register it as a leader, you will have to go to the party quest npc and pay an amount to be put on the world party quest list.

What is it?

This is a feature that is found in MapleStory that allows one to search for other party members to make a party, depending on the settings chosen by the person who is the leader of the party. It also allows a person looking for a party to find one easier.

What does it do?

Basically, it takes the hassle of finding and repeating "Joining PQ" or looking forever for a party in a area or map in certain areas. It also allows speciality of the levels of the chosen party.

How does it work?

There are 2 steps of doing this. The fist method is to actually search for a party. The second method is to register to find a party.

Method 1: Searching for a Party as the LEADER of a party

Basically, you need to go under your party menu. By pressing "P" on your keyboard, you can access this menu:

Note the Search key. By pressing this key, you can access the party search function:

Note the two tabs at the top of the picture, "PARTY" and "PARTY SEARCH". "PARTY SEARCH" is explained in this method, the other is for registering for a party, which will be explained in method 2 below. If you are the leader of the party, here is where you can specifically choose which members, what classes, and what levels you want for a party. After choosing, the party searcher will start it search protocaal and start looking for individuals that match your preferences. Here is a more detailed breakdown of what each function does:

  • Level: This basically allows you to choose what the minimum and maximum level you wish to be in your party. The left number is for the minimum number, while the right one is for the maximum number. For example, say as leader you are level 20 and would like people around this level to party with. You set the minimum for level 16, and the maximum for level 24. This range will try to keep people from possibly leeching exp from the party.
  • Party Members: This is how many people you would like in the party. It is unclear if this counts your character or not, but it seems to count your character as one of the six, if you choose six.
  • All Jobs: This basically allows you to choose whether to have a particular job class included in your party or not. When you deselect a certain job, say beginner for instance, the "all job" will be unchecked. This is to show you have specifically picked certain job classes compared to others. Note that this now, with the current patch, the advent of the PIRATE job classes included.

Once you are done fine tuning what party you want, press the "START SEARCH" key. A little icon will appear on the top right of your screen. It is not known the effectiveness of the search, but one can assume that it only searches the area you are in. Please see Pro's Vs. Con's below for more on this.

Method 2: Registering to be in a Party and not being the LEADER of a Party

Basically, this method is for those who are not the leader of a party. Here is a image of the "PARTY" screen:

Party Search 3.JPG

As you notice, this screen is different that the above ones for method 1. Here you are choosing what level range you wish to be included in. The left one indicates the minimum level range, while the right one indicates the maximum level range. After choosing this range, click on the botton tab that says "REGISTER". This basically lets whoever is searching for memebers from method one find you. After clicking, a search icon will appear in the top right corner until a party leader who is looking using method one above finds you as one of the specialities of the party he has chosen. It is not known the effectiveness of this search so please refer to Pro's Vs. Con's.

Pros Vs. Cons

The following are some points on this system, and against this system.

Pros

  1. Easier time to find party members.
  2. Cuts down on wasting time saying "joining pq".
  3. Allows a leader to choose exactly what class and level will be in a party.

Cons

  1. The time it takes to search for people is not known.
  2. Many people choose to either ignore this feature or are not aware of it's existance, and thus, it is hard to find people that actually use this. It is this author's hope, though, by writing about it on here, more people will be aware of it.
  3. The 4th Job classes are not included, and thus high level parties have to relay on the old method of asking and choosing people by looking at them.
  4. It is possible to recruit AFK people sitting at the entrance to a PQ. This may cause problems in the pq itself if they end up dying or get found out their AFK. Always ask all the people if there on before going into the pq.

Notes

This feature has been tested by this author and fully works due to the update in patch .68. In fact, I've seen people using this feature and does exactly what it is supposed to do. Also, as of patch .84 in GMS, this system has been upgraded to feature names of pq's now and approximate level amounts for each one required.
