Monster Life
Overview
Monster Life is a feature that allows the player to create his/her own farm and raise monsters in it. Each account has only one farm linked to all characters in all worlds, and it cannot be deleted once created. To enter your farm, click menu on the bottom right corner, then press the 'Visit Farm' button. A profile picture can be uploaded to your farm, but it must be up in JPG format and can only be changed once a day. Inappropriate pictures can lead to a ban without notice. All monsters in your farm stay for only 30 days, and while on the farm, they give players "potentials," or passive buffs, based on the monster's type and rank. Every players earns a Lucky Box daily when they log in to Monster Life, and its contents are completely random. Monster Life also has a separate buddy list from the original buddy list each character has. To add a player, you need to ask for their farm name, or you will not be able to add them to your buddy list. You also have the option of visiting a random person's farm, and you can also add them by right-clicking their profile picture on the top right and clicking 'Add Friend'.
Currency
There are two different types of currency in Monster Life:
- Waru, obtained from buildings, nurturing/playing with monsters, or rewards from quests and
- Gems, NX-bought currency that allows you to buy special buildings at an earlier level and/or that cannot be bought with Waru. With luck, one supposedly can earn Gems from the Lucky Box as well.
- Monster Life Shop
- Monster Life Special Merchant - no information about this yet.
Jules' Place
Jules' Place can be reached by pressing the scroll icon in the bottom right of the screen. It'll take you to a map where you can talk to five different NPCs:
- Jules himself is on the leftmost side of the screen, and talking to him allows you to check for achievements you may have or have not completed yet;
- The mirror in the middle of the screen allows you to visit a random player's farm;
- Aya is to the right of the mirror and above Jimmy-Jack (See Quest section below);
- Jimmy-Jack is to the right of the mirror and below Aya. Talking to him will allow you to buy buildings, décor, etc. View Monster Life Shop for what he sells; and
- Photo Album is the rightmost book laying open, and it'll show you the monsters that are currently in your farm and what buffs your characters are getting from them. This feature can also be reached by clicking on the book icon in the bottom right. Despite its description, it'll NOT show any monsters that are not in your farm at the present moment, meaning if you've let a monster go, it will not be marked here.
Buildings
All buildings each have three attributes:
- Amount of Waru generated every 10 minutes,
- Maximum amount of Waru generated that can be stored, and
- Aesthetic Points.
All decors only have the attribute Aesthetic Points.
More on Aesthetic Points
Having Aesthetic Points will give you special bonus once you reach certain thresholds. Some main questline quests will ask you to build more buildings/décor to raise the amount of Aethestic Points you currently have. The three types of bonuses are:
- Increase on maximum amount of Waru generated that can be stored;
- Monster Life Shop Discount; and
- Special Merchant Appearance Chance.
Quests
As soon as you first enter the farm, Clara will give you a quest to accomplish. There is a succession of them (unconfirmed how many), but they will grant you Waru and/or Experience. Some of them may also give you a special reward, such as a Box containing a monster. On top of what can be considered the "main questline," a fairy by the name of Aya can give you up to 4 quests every 3 hours. Main questline quests will ask you to either nurture a certain type of monster, play with a certain type of monster, combine monsters a specified amount of times, build certain buildings and decors, among other special requests. As of yet, all sidequests given by Aya involve either nurturing or playing with a certain number of monsters of the specified type. To talk to Aya, either click on the scroll in the left side of the screen that pops up once those optional quests are available or talk to her in Jules' place. For a Quest List, see Monster Life Quests.
Messaging Players
It is possible to talk to other players while in Monster Life. You can message them as long as they're in your Monster Life friend list and also currently on Monster Life. If you are in Monster Life and the player you wish to message is not, your messages will not reach them. However, if you want to talk to someone in Monster Life while you're not there, whispering the player WILL result in it looking as if they are whispering you back. To the player in Monster Life, it'll seem as if the player is currently chatting them through the Message feature on Monster Life.
Home Page
Every farm has its own Home Page. The owner can write on the Home Page of his/her own farm, and everyone else can write on another person's Home Page. You can either access this by right-clicking the profile picture on the top right in either your own farm or other people's farms and clicking homepage or, if you're already friends with the person, you can right-click the farm's name in your friend list and click Home Page, which will bring you to it without you having to visit the player's farm.
- PLEASE NOTE: Everyone can see ANYTHING posted here, so be wary of what information you're sending to the world here.
Monsters
Having monsters in your farm does not require you to feed them or buy them items, but they can be nurtured up to three times a day for experience. After a period of time, the monster will actually want to be nurtured, and if you nurture it at that state will give you more experience to the monster than if it was already content. Your monsters can also be played with by other people just as you can play with theirs. Each monster can be played with by up to twenty people a day, and the same person cannot play with the same monster twice in the same day. Nurturing will give you a small amount of Waru based on the monster's level. If you nurture it and it levels up, you will be granted the same amount as the new level instead of the old one. Playing gives you 1 Waru per monster and grants the monster a very small amount of experience.
Obtaining New Monsters
Monsters can be either bought with Waru, Gems, or Incubators that can be bought with NX from the Cash Shop. As of its release on GMS 1.35, there are two types of Incubators:
- Monster Incubators, which cost 1.9k NX, will hatch into a monster whose potential will not be applied to the player and that can't be combined with other monsters.
- Superior Monster Incubators, which cost 2.6k NX, have potentials that are applied to the player and can be combined with other monsters. NOTE: Despite this description, unconfirmed whether Special monsters from this can be combined.
Combining Monsters
A third way of acquiring monsters is to combine them with monsters from another player's farm for a Waru fee. You do not need to be friends with the player who owns the farm you are currently visiting to be able to combine monsters. Depending on the rank of the monster, the Waru fee increases. Please note:
- A monster needs to be at least level 3 to be combined;
- Monsters in your farm cannot be combined with each other;
- Special type monsters cannot be combined. (See note on Superior Monster Incubators above);
- You MUST have at least one open spot in your farm.
- According to Nexon, monsters of higher levels have a higher chance of an offspring of higher ranks, but this is so far unconfirmed;
- Each monster can only be combined with another once. In other words, if another player has already combined one of his/her monsters with the monster you want to combine with, you cannot do so in the same day. Your own monsters CAN be used to combine as many times as you'd like, but not with the same monster and/or a monster that has already been combined with, whether by the player or someone else;
- Combining two monsters of the same type does NOT guarantee a monster of the same type;
- Combining two monsters of the same rank does NOT guarantee a monster of the same rank. If you combine two rank C monsters, you can get another C monster or a B monster, with some luck. However, were you to combine two rank A monsters, there is a chance of getting a C, B, or B+ offspring as well as an A or S; and
- Waru fees per rank:
- C + C = 60
- B + B or B + C = 150
- (B+) + (B+)or (B+) + B or (B+) + C = 500
- A + A or A + (B+) or A + B or A + C = 1k
- S + S or S + A or S + (B+) or S + B or S + C = unknown
- SS + SS or SS + S or SS + A or SS + (B+) or SS + B or SS + C = unknown
Potentials
Each and every monster has its own potential, and the type of potential depends on type the monster falls out of the 22 categories. The rank of the monster increases the effect of the potential. The 23rd category, Special monsters, each have their own potential and thus are not included here. The other 22categories and their potentials are:
- Birds: DEX
- Bovines: STR
- Canine: STR and LUK
- Cats: LUK
- Devils: DEX and INT
- Dolls & Toys: % Mesos obtained
- Dragons: Final blow has 10% chance of restoring X amount of HP
- Fairies: Max MP
- Ghosts: Final blow has 10% chance of regaining X amount of MP
- Golems: Weapon DEF
- Homuns: -% Skill MP cost
- Monkeys & Bears: Accuracy
- Mushrooms: % Discount on Monster Life Shop products
- Non-Humans: INT
- Pigs: Max HP
- Plants: HP each 10 sec
- Reptiles: DEX and INT
- Slimes & Snails: MP each 10 sec
- Soldiers: STR and INT
- Spirits: Magic DEF
- Undead: -% EXP loss per death
- Yetis & Pepes: Minion duration
Maximum Amount of Monsters
Each farm can only have up to a certain amount of monsters at a time. Leveling up will slowly open up slots, but by using gems, you can also buy up to ten more slots in your farm in the Monster Life Shop. On top of the monsters on display, you gain a Monster Barn in one of the main questline missions (see Quests). With the Monster Barn, you can store monsters, but they cannot be nurtured/played with by another player. Their potentials will also become inactive while inside. Once you acquire the Monster Barn, it'll only have one slot, but nine more slots can be purchased individually in the Monster Life shop.
- Note: If your farm is full and you want to take out a monster from the Monster Barn, you need to release one of the monsters or you will not be able to take out the monster.
