A Magician is a class that relies on intelligence and luck, rather than strength and dexterity in battle. Getting to level 8 takes a very long time, but between the levels of 9 and about 25, leveling is much faster than that of other classes. Mages used ranged attacks as opposed to hands on, and, depending on the level of the skill, can do considerable damage. Once a magician reaches level 30 and can take the second job advancement, you can choose between a Fire/Poison Wizard which is mainly chosen for longer-term damage, an Ice/Lightning Wizard which does direct damage, or a Cleric which is used for healing and Party Quests. From the Wizards, at level 70, one can become a Mage, and then an Arch Mage at level 120. As a Cleric, at level 70, you become a Priest, and at level 120, a Bishop.

NOTE: This guide contains a dice roll section for AP points. We would like to inform you that dice roll function is not used anymore in GMS and MapleSEA. If you are a beginner, there is no need as all points are assigned to STR. When you get your job advancement, click A and then click on auto-assign points. Please avoid that section and everytime you level up, press 'a' and press auto-assign. You may continue that system or if you are looking to use a special point build eg. dexless assassin, then you may do so.

For creating a magician, the ideal starting stats are: STR: 4/5 DEX: 4/5 INT: xx LUK: xx Because magicians don’t need the Strength (STR) or Dexterity (DEX) stats for any reason, they should be as low as possible to give Intelligence (INT) and Luck (LUK) more points. As a magician levels, to assure the definite use of every magician equip, the LUK stat should always be 3 points above your level, and the rest of the points should be put into INT.

TRAINING CAMP

In the Training Camp, complete all quests that are given to you because training is slow given your low STR. Resist the temptation to put points into STR, because once you hit level 8 and become a magician, low STR will no longer be an issue.

MAPLE ISLAND

Training on Maple Island will be grueling and time-consuming especially in levels 6 and 7, but my advice is to complete all quests excluding Bigg’s Collection Of Items. As for Skill Points (SP), I recommend putting them into Recovery and Nimble Feet. These various quests plus a bit of extra training on your part will get you to level 7 and at about 50%. At this point no lower, you should venture to Victoria Island, accept Olaf’s Magician quest, and talk to Phil who will bring you to Ellinia for a small cost.

BECOMING A MAGICIAN

Once in Ellinia, head up into the Magic Library where you should complete Olaf’s quest with Grendel the Really Old. You should have just leveled. Now that you are level 8, talk to Grendel the Really Old and become a Magician. Use the single SP that he gave you and put it into Energy Bolt.

SP DISTRIBUTION

At level 8, put the single Skill Point into Energy Bolt, but do not continue with Energy Bolt after adding this one point. From then on, put the following SP into the categories in chronological order: 5 points into Improving MP Recovery 4 points into Improving Max MP Max Improving MP Recovery Max Magic Claw Max Magic Guard

This build is the most used in Maplestory magicians and is used up until level 30 when a mapler must decide on one of the three 2nd job advancements.

LEVELING A MAGICIAN AND TRAINING AREAS

Level 1-7: Train on Snails, Blue Snails, and Shrooms on Maple Island, and do not leave the Island until you are at 50% at level 7.

Level 8-10 Train in the Slime Tree in the Forest South of Ellinia. The Slime Tree is the farthest tree on the left and contains only Slimes with very fast re-spawn rates. Bring about 75 HP Pots and 100 MP Pots for this particular training.

Level 11-17 Train in the Henesys Party Quest (PQ) in the earlier levels, the PQ will provide about one level each time you go through. Advertise yourself as a lurer or a smuggler to guarantee a spot in a PQ. Join a PQ with a high level leader around level 20 or higher, to make sure he knows what he’s doing.

Level 18-25 Train on Pigs, Ribbon Pigs, Henesys PQ, Kerning City PQ, Green Mushrooms, or Stirges. My personal recommendation is to do the Kerning City PQ but have enough potions to assure that you won’t die. Stirges are also a good choice, located in the Kerning Subway. There is Slime-Tree-esque re-spawn there, possibly even faster, but at level 18-23 you may not be able to kill them in under three hits with Magic Claw, and this particular area is usually infested with hackers.

Level 26-30 Train on Stirges in the Kerning Subway or on Green or Horned Mushrooms near Ellinia.

MAKING THE JOB ADVANCEMENT

To make the 2nd Job advancement to either Wizard or Cleric, one must first talk to Grendel the Really Old in the Magic Library in Ellinia. From there, he will give you a pass that allows you to meet with the Job Instructor of Ellinia who is located high in the trees North of Ellinia. Bring loads of pots to complete this Job Advancement, even though it isn’t particularly hard. You must collect 30 items that monsters drop in this quest, and bring them back to the Job Instructor. He will give you a certificate saying you completed the task, which you are to bring back to Grendel the Really Old. He will then give you the choice of either becoming a Fire/Poison (FP) Wizard, a Ice/Lightning (IL) Wizard, or a Cleric.
