When you start maplestory click on create a character it should look like this...
After you press create a character. For a mage your strength
and dex should be 4 or less.press the dice and the stats will change.Don't forget to pick a name and check if it is available.Then click create a character.
The screen should look like this after you finish creating your character.
You should appear in a place called maple island.Stay there and train on snails the green ones they look like this
(the other snails that look like this are a waste of time)
Stay on the island and train there till you are level 8 then leave the island.Read everything and you will learn how to play and what to do.To be a magician you will need luck 3 plus your level the rest goes on your intelligence. Go to Ellinia to meet Grendel the Really Old you will have to go all the way up Ellinia to find him.
NEVER BOOST IT ON STRENGTH OR DEX!!!!OR YOU WILL HAVE MESSED UP STATS.
Go around Ellinia to find a shop that sells armor and clothes to buy level 8 suff.There is also a potion store in Ellinia.
NOW THAT YOU ARE LEVEL 8 WITH JOB ADVANCEMENT YOU CAN DO SOMETHING CALLED POWER LEVELING!!NORMAL LEVELING IS JUST FIGHTING ANG HEALING BY WAITING BUT POWER LEVELING IS WHEN YOU BUY A TON OF POTS AND USE THEM WITHOUT STOPPING WHILE FIGHTING. TO POWER LEVEL AT LEVEL 8-18 USE ORANGES AND RED POTIONS LEVEL 18-25 YOU CAN USE ORANGE POTIONS AND BLUE POTIONS LEVEL 25-??? YOU CAN USE WHITE POTS AND MANA ELIXIRS AROUND LEVEL 40 YOU MIGHT NOT USE POTS BECAUSE YOUR MP WILL HEAL REALLY FAST (WE RECOMMEND YOU BUY THEM BY THE 100'S)
Anyways here are what the skills you have.
This skill allows you to improve the amount you heal every 10 seconds
This skill makes your defense go up by 40 when maxed it is not recommended because later on 40 defense is nothing compared to lorangs and clangs exc etc
This is a powerful skill.This attack go through solids.The attack power is 40 when maxed and hits 2 times!
We recommend to max this out it is very useful.it will target 80% of the hit points to mp not hp so you wont die and mages have almost an unlimited amount after a while
Boost this skill only once so you can use magic claw.We prefer you max out magic claw and ot this because of the power difference look at the following example
There are 3 ways to make a mage. One way is called reckless power mode First you would do this on your skills.

Now you can fight red snails and slimes
and stumps till level 10
Now you should fight Slime in the The Tree That Grew I, II & III until you are level 18.
At level 18-21 You should fight Pigs at Pig Beach.
At level 21-25 Fight Horny Mushrooms and Green Mushrooms in the Tree Dungeons in Ellinia
At level 25-30 Fight in Ant Tunnel I with Zombie Mushrooms and Horny Mushrooms.
Now go to Ellinia and talk to Grendel the Really Old he will give you a letter. Go to Forest North of Ellinia and enter the first tree dungeon hole that you see. Keep on going up and you will find the job instructor sooner or later.
