Summary

This is a guide to I/L mages who have gone through their 3rd job advancement. If you arent an I/L Mage this isnt the right guide for you.

I/L Mages are known for their ability for mobbing. Usually the main attacking skill, Ice Strike, is able to hit monsters from very far away and freeze the monster, which makes I/L's the most favored 3rd job mobbing class next to Dragon Knights.

Version History

  • v1.0 - 4/28/08 - Ap Distribution and Ice Method Completed
  • v1.1 - 5/14/08 - Thunder Method Completed and Training Locations(Ice) started

AP Distribution

Many Mages who have gotten to this stage know most of this already, but it's just in case.

Every mages eventually cap their LUK. I suggest capping at a point where you dont think you want another staff/wand. Some think this as Lv110, while some at Lv85. The reason they do this is to maximize the points put into their INT and boost their damage above those who continue to add LUK for no apparent reason.

Up to the point that you wish to cap your LUK: 4 INT, and 1 LUK/level.

When you cap your LUK: 5 INT/level

SP Distribution

I dont know exactly your preferences for your mage, but these are my suggestions.

Ice Method

Lv70: 1 in Ice Strike(1)

Lv71-80: 3 in Ice Strike(30-Maxed), 1 in Element Amplification(1)

Lv81: 2 in Element Amplification(3), 1 in Spell Booster(1)

Lv82-84: 3 in Spell Booster(10)

Lv85: 1 in Spell Booster(11), 1 in Partial Resistance(1), 1 in Element Amplification(4)

Lv86-91: 3 in Element Amplification(28)

Lv92: 2 in Element Amplification(30-Maxed), 1 free point

  • At this point, you may do whatever suits your desires. I suggest Maxing Thunder Spear right afterward, and then Element Composition, but you may have different plans...Have Fun~

Thunder Method

  • This Method is extremely unrecommended as you dont max your first 3rd job attack until Lv.85

Lv70: 1 in Element Amplification(1)

Lv71: 2 in Element Amplification(3), 1 in Spell Booster(1)

Lv72-74: 3 in Spell Booster(10)

Lv75: 1 in Spell Booster(11), 2 in Thunder Spear(2)

Lv76-84: 3 in Thunder Spear(29)

Lv85: 1 in Thunder Spear(30-Maxed), 2 in Ice Strike(2)

Lv86-94: 3 in Ice Strike(29)

Lv95: 1 in Ice Strike(30-Maxed), 2 free points

  • At this point, you may do whatever fits your desires. I suggest maxing Element Amplification, but you may have different plans...Have fun~

Training Locations

  • I am currently Lv73, and I currently have training spots for the Ice Method only, so this part may be somewhat incomplete.

Ice Locations

  • If you have been told that Lv70-75 is temporary hell phase, they werent lying. Once you get some points in Ice Strike you'll be fine.

Lv70-80- Hoodoo/Voodoo, and FoG are always good training spots for a long time after the advancement, Great Mobbing, stock up on pots. Also, before level 75, try Red Drakes or Cellions.

Lv75-85- Kru/Captain, The spawn is incredible. Mainly, use Ice Strike to kill the giant mobs, and they spawn so fast that before you even finish with the entire mob, new monsters will spawn to make up for the mob members you already killed. So you get continuous exp. Burns pots FAST.

Lv75-85- Death Teddies, With attacks doing more than 1k damage, this is the first training place where you WILL die in one hit without Magic Guard on. However, they give 1.3k experience, which is even more than anything before. They collect in fairly big mobs. You will generally spend some time learning how Death Teddies shoot, and finding the safe platforms where you can easily spam Ice Strike to snipe the Death Teddies below. Once you get the hang of it and know how to not die, this place becomes godly training.
