The Legendary Heroes

Long ago, before even version 0.1 of MapleStory, there existed five heroes, each representing a different class of MapleStory. Now the Five Heroes were a peaceful group, and only used their powers to preserve the peace and balance of the World of MapleStory. However, even in such a Utopia, evil still finds way to gain hold, and so a certain magician soon gained immense power and became known as the Black Mage. The Black Mage sought control of all of MapleStory, and before his immense strength none could stand against him. Even the Royal Guards of the Empress could not stand to his might. It seemed that all may have been lost... until the Five Heroes banded together to form one final stand against the Black Mage. And so the battle began, with the Black Mage and his army of hundreds of monsters fighting a small force of only Five Heroes, and yet the heroes stood their ground, pushing back wave after wave of attack. The Black Mage saw each of their weaknesses, however, and he soon discovered how to defeat them. Afrien was the first to be defeated, as the Black Mage attempted to kill Freud in an effort to break their Spirit Bond and gain control of the powerful Onyx Dragon. He miscalculated, however, and what should have been an excellent plan backfired when instead of hitting Freud, Afrien darted into the path of the spell and was hit instead, killing the great Onyx Dragon. Freud, witnessing the downfall of his beloved companion, quickly seized the egg that Afrien had dropped, and fled, while the other Heroes, aware of their companion's defeat, covered his escape. The rest of the heroes fought to contain the Black Mage, and after days of bitter fighting finally controlled the Black Mage's menace. However, their efforts were not without a price. The Black Mage was a vengeful person, and he would not go quietly, even in defeat. In a final act of defiance, he sealed the remaining heroes in ice, cursed to remain frozen in time, their memories wiped clean, all of their abilities lost. However, with the new era of peace that the Heroes created with their lives, they have soon begun to awaken, and just in time too, there have been rumors of another evil force stirring in the Maple World...
