They handle bows and crossbows very well, and can also use a light sword, blunt weapon, or an axe on occasion. They are adept at avoiding the enemy, and prefer armors that are light enough to maximize dexterity.

The job order for the bowmen reveal a 2-way job route. In order to advance as one of these job, various requirements need to be fulfilled. You should take time deciding what kind of a bowman you want to become down the road before committing to a route. ~MapleGlobal

Introduction

This guide was constructed and compiled by MDZealot of MapleTip (Typed and modified into MapleWiki viewable form by ShaQ. Not that MDZ appreciates his guide being edited and what not). It is not to be distributed to other websites without asking for my permission. You may not use parts of my guide or edit them in any way without my permission.

I would also like to point out that this is only a guide. Use this to help you along your journey of being an Archer. If you don't want to do something my guide suggests, don't. It is only here to help you, not tell you what you have to do.

Why to be an Archer?

Being an Archer makes you able to make high demage due to Critical Shot (CS). When Critical Shot is maxed, it makes the damage double at a 40% success rate. However, archers have very unstable damage in lower levels until they get Bow Mastery (which is a 2nd job skill) maxed or at level 19. After it is maxed, archers will become powerful at level 38+. Archers can kill mobs with a second job advancement skill called Arrow Bomb (for Hunters), iron arrow (for Crossbow Men). At levels higher than 50, Archers become one of the most powerful class.

About the Archer

Archers. One of the most looked up to classes in the game. We do great damage at a long range, and have good HP to boot. Some people may ask: "Why not be an Assassin? They're faster, and they can jump shoot!"

Well, my question is this. What good is speed when your competition can shoot a powerful shot from a farther distance and kill the monster before you get your "Speedy" shots off?

Archers are a low populated class, meaning our prices of items will be lower than most, but we can still do more damage than almost any other class!

On your path to becoming an Archer!

The dreaded dice roll

Ah, yes. The dice roll. Possibly one of the most aggravating things in this game is the dice roll process.

For Archers, the best possible stats to get are x STR // x DEX // 4 INT // 4 LUK (x meaning it could be any number). The reason you want to get this is because Archers will not need to have points into INT and LUK, so having the lowest possible INT and LUK may result in more damage for you and your Archer.

However, there IS a set amount of Strength you can get. Why strength and not dexterity, you ask? It has been some-what proven that the more strength you have increases the amount of HP you get per level up. So, you could get 12 STR // 5 DEX // 4 INT // 4 LUK, resulting in more HP.

I really don't suggest wasting the time to get these stats. The HP increase you will get isn't worth the time. A simple 4 INT // 4 LUK is good enough.

Stat Distribution

The stat distribution is quite simple. Although, since there are two different types of Archers, there are two different ways of doing this.

For people planning on going Hunter (Using regular bows), you need to keep your STR +5 your level to be able to use your bows. So, if you're level 50, you MUST have 55 STR. Every other point should be put into DEX and nothing else. Simplier, you should have 5 STR above your level and averything else into DEX!

Hunter Build

Level 10 -- 15 Strength, 47 Dex.

Level 15 -- 20 Strength, 67 Dex.

Level 20 -- 25 Strength, 87 Dex.

Level 25 -- 30 Strength, 107 Dex

Level 30 -- 35 Strength, 127 Dex.

Level 35 -- 40 Strength, 147 Dex.

Level 40 -- 45 Strength, 167 Dex.

Level 45 -- 50 Strength, 187 Dex.

Level 50 -- 55 Strength, 207 Dex.

Level 55 -- 60 Strength, 227 Dex.

Level 60 -- 65 Strength, 247 Dex.

Level 65 -- 70 Strength, 267 Dex.

Level 70 -- 75 Strength, 287 Dex.

See the pattern?

Now, for Crossbow Men/Women, you don't need to have strength +5 your level. All you have to do is have your strength EQUAL to your level to use your crossbows. So, if you're level 50, you MUST have 50 strength.

Crossbow Man/Woman Build

Level 10 -- 10 Strength, 52 Dex.

Level 15 -- 15 Strength, 72 Dex.

Level 20 -- 20 Strength, 92 Dex.

Level 25 -- 25 Strength, 112 Dex

Level 30 -- 30 Strength, 132 Dex.

Level 35 -- 35 Strength, 152 Dex.

Level 40 -- 40 Strength, 172 Dex.

Level 45 -- 45 Strength, 192 Dex.

Level 50 -- 50 Strength, 212 Dex.

Level 55 -- 55 Strength, 232 Dex.

Level 60-- 60 Strength, 252 Dex.

Level 65 -- 65 Strength, 272 Dex.

Level 70 -- 70 Strength, 292 Dex.

See this pattern? You basically just add +1 Strength and +4 Dex every level.

Where to level up

These are my suggestions as to where to level up while being an Archer:

'Level 1-10 '

Maple Island is pretty much the best place you should train at. Bash away at the huge supply of Snails there until you are level 10.

Right Around Lith Harbor also has a nice Snail spawn. However, there is the ocasional Slime that may mess you up every once in a while.

Level 10-15

Henesys Hunting Ground I is a good place to train. Use a melee weapon and bash on the fast Snail spawn on the bottom.

The infamous Slime Tree is also a good choice. You might have a harder time killing these than you would Snails, which could result in less EXP.

The Tree That Grew 1 is also good. Like the Slime Tree, it spawns only Slimes. If you get one person on each level of this map, the spawn is great!

Another great spot is Hidden Street: Mushroom Garden. Here, you can sacrifice not having a bow by using melee weapons to kill Orange Mushrooms, Shrooms, and Red Snails.

Level 15-18

The Slime Tree is now probably the best place for EXP. You should now equip a bow (or a crossbow) and kill some Slimes with them.

The Tree That Grew 1 is also good. Like the Slime Tree, it spawns only Slimes. If you get one person on each level of this map, the spawn is great!

Henesys Hunting Ground 1 on the second level. There's a nice Slime spawn here, and you can stand on the hay stacks and snipe them down with great ease!

Henesys Hunting Grounds 2 and 3 also have nice spawns of Slimes, Snails, Orange and Green Mushrooms, and Stumps. There are steps here on the sides of the screen that can be used to snipe at the monsters.

Hidden Street: Mushroom Garden is still a good spot to train if you prefer not to buy a bow. you can usually have the whole map to yourself, allowing you to control the spawn rate better. Very few potions should be needed.

Level 18-20

Kerning City Construction Site has a great Orange Mushroom spawn. Travel around this map killing the mushrooms as you go. If you get a few people on the map, the spawn will be great.

The Slime Tree is still nice EXP. By now, you should be using your new bow/crossbow and be killing the Slimes within 1-2 hits.

The Tree That Grew 1-3 is also good. Like the Slime Tree, it spawns only Slimes. If you get one person on each level of this map, the spawn is great!

Henesys Hunting Grounds 2 and 3 are still very good choices. This place has nice spawns of Slimes, Snails, Orange and Green Mushrooms, and Stumps. There are steps here on the sides of the screen that can be used to snipe at the monsters.

Hidden Street: Mushroom Garden is still a great spot to train if you prefer not to buy a bow.

Level 20-25

Pig Beach is now the place to be. With your new weapon equipped and your new armor, you should be able to take down pigs with ease.

Kerning City Construction Site has a nice Octopus spawn on the top of the map. You can stand on the platform going up to it and snipe them down without getting hit. This is pretty nice EXP. (shoots,i nearly died goin up there as an assassin,im on dark sight)

Hidden Street: Over The Wall (Perion) is a good option. The EXP might not be the greatest, but you have a chance at finding your level 35 equips here. There's also quite a few snipe-platforms on this map. Bring a friend to have this map spawn at it's greatest potential.

Victoria Road: Dungeon, Southern Forest II is a good option for fighting Green Mushrooms and Slimes. There are quite a few nice sniping spots.

Level 25-30

Party Questing in Kerning City is a good option now that you're level 25. You just got your new items and you're ready to roll! If you have a good leader that gets into the Party Quest a lot of the time, this is a must. During your 15-20 minute wait (if you miss) you can go to near-by maps and kill monsters to gain EXP constantly.

Ant Tunnel 1 has a nice Horny Mushroom spawn at the top of the map. I don't suggest trying to take on undead mushrooms yet, since you have little chance of OHKOing them.

Kerning City Construction Site is still a nice option. The EXP is still good as long as the spawn is nice. You can also still snipe and you won't have to use many potions!

Over The Wall is also still a good option. The EXP might not be the greatest, but you have a chance at finding your level 35 equips here. There's also quite a few snipe-platforms on this map. Bring a friend to have this map spawn at it's greatest potential.

The Tower in Orbis is also a very good place to train. The Jr Sentinels there drop good drops, and money. Be sure to buy a few MP potions and HP potions before coming!

Southern Forest II may also still be a good option as by now you should be able to kill the Green Mushrooms quite efficiently.

Level 30-35

Land of the Wild Boar 1 & 2 are the most popular options around this level. With the fast spawn and the nice EXP of these monsters, you will gain EXP very fast. Beware though that the spawn may be too fast as it is a very populated area. Bring a lot of potions.

  • Note from a player: As an alternative to Land of the Wild Boar, you can level at West Rocky Mountain IV; although the spawn is slower, because it is less popular, it is easy to keep the spawn pretty high by clearing out one area after another. However, you will have to watch out for the occasional Lupin.

Note from a player: If you are low on mesos, Jr. Sentinels in Orbis Tower are a really good source of money, but give slower EXP then other monsters.

Ant Tunnels are a great option. By now you should OHKO Zombie Mushrooms and Horny Mushrooms quite often. There's also a snipe platform at the bottom right of Ant Tunnel 1.

The Tower in Orbis is also a very good place to train. The Jr Sentinels there drop good drops and money. Be sure to buy a few MP potions and HP potions before coming!

Level 35-40

Land of the Wild Boar 1 & 2 are still the most popular options around this level. With the fast spawn and the nice EXP of these monsters, you will gain EXP very fast.

Ant Tunnels are still a great option. You should OHKO Zombie Mushrooms and Horny Mushrooms all the time. There's also a snipe platform at the bottom right of Ant Tunnel 1.

The Garden of Three Colors/Green/etc. are nice options. Jr. Grupins/Cellions/Lioners give more EXP than Fire Boars and don't have that much more HP. The Jr. Lioners also have a chance at dropping a 60% Bow Attack scroll, which you WILL be using in the future. These maps are also very crowded, so be warned that finding a decent spot may be difficult.

Level 40-45

The Burnt Land 1, 2 & 3 are great options. The spawn is fast, the drops are pretty nice and the EXP is good. This will level you up fast. However, beware of Ice Mages at this popular area.

The Garden of Three Colors/Green/etc. are still nice options. Jr. Grupins/ Celions/Lioners give more EXP than fire boars and don't have that much more HP. The Jr. Lioners also have a chance at dropping a 60% Bow Attack scroll, which you WILL be using in the future.

Orbis Tower 5, 4 & 3 are good options. The tower of Leattys/Dark Leattys give nice EXP and drops. You also have a chance at finding your level 40 earrings (Blue moons) if you are training on Dark Leattys.

Level 45-50

Dangerous Valley is a nice spawn of Copper Drakes and Fire Boars. The EXP here is quite good.

Golem Temples are quite good for these levels. Nice spawn, huge EXP and slow monsters. Perfect for range.

Monkey Forests are also a good place to level, as long as there's no Cleric KSing you.

Level 50-60

Dangerous Valley II is a great place for these levels. Fire Drakes give great exp and great drops. You also have a chance to find the ever-so-pricey Steelies. This would boost your mesos by quite a bit.

Cloud Park V and VI is also a good place to train. Nice spawn of Luster and Lunar Pixies.

  • Note from a Player: You should train at golems if your computer is a bit laggy, because the higher your level is,the laggier your computer will be. (Because of those pros using those high animation attacks.)

Zombies are probably the most populated high level area. You shouldn't go here until you're in your late 50's.

Golem Temples are still a good place to level. It's fairly easy to find an empty map so you can control the spawn.

Level 60-70

Zombies are now great EXP for you. You should probably camp a spawn here for a while and gain massive EXP.

Sanctuary I /II are becoming better for you. Party up with a cleric or someone to tank the Taurospears and shoot away!

Level 70+

This is about the time where you go off and hunt anything that give lots of EXP.

Dark Yetis, Dark Yeti and Pepi, Yeti and Pepi, etc, will probably be what you will be hunting now. When the Third Job comes out, you will start to shine and you will own these monsters with ease.

First Job Advancement

First Job Introduction

Once you have reached level ten, exit maple island by going to southperry and asking Shanks to leave maple island. You will then be teleported to Lith Harbor. At Lith Harbor, go down from the boat and find the Ticket Booth (should not be far from the boat) and go to Henesys, which costs around 100 mesos (90% discount for beginners). At Henesys, go to Mushroom park and go right until you see a house, enter it. Talk to Helena (GMS: Athena Pierce) and she will instruct you on how to become a bowman. This is where your journey begins. You have just become an Archer, one of the best classes in the game, and you need to work hard to level up to be the best that you can.

Equipment Tips

A lot of the time, there is confusion on which items to get. I'm going to help you decide what items are worth getting!

In the early levels, you won't need to have that much armor. It's best to just stick with low level gear that you find while training. You don't need to buy new armor and stuff till about level 20.

  • Note from a Player: You could buy the hat/bottom wear for good measure.

Once you get to level 20, buy the equipment that you think looks the best on you. The +Dex on these items is minimal, so don't expect to get a big damage boost out of it.

Once you hit 25, my suggestion is to not buy any items (if you're low on cash) unless it gives that extra DEX. The defence you get doesn't do much.

  • Note from a Player: If your computer is laggy, do try to use sniping areas if you don't have any 'big' def armor.

At level 35 and 40 is where you get my favorite armors. The Legoliers and Piettes. These items should be bought because they give you a nice +DEX, good defence and good looks.

This is where it gets some-what complicated.

At level 50, there is a Red (+Strength) and a Blue (+DEX) overall. Some of you may think that because the Blue one gives +DEX, you have to get it. This is 100% WRONG. If you like the looks of the red one, get it. The reason is that you can take the amount of strength you get from your +Strength overall, and add it to your Dex. This is the same as having a +DEX equipment, it also results in better looks (opinions may vary). This goes for all of the level 50+ Overalls, and I guess any of the items you get.

I don't suggest you do this until about level 50.

I also suggest 10%ing your Robes until you get at least 3/10 10% scrolls to work. This gives a nice +Dex bonus, resulting in more damage.

Second Job Advancement

Once you have reached level 30, yippee! Time for second job advancement! To make the second job adv, talk to Athena Pierce in Henesys and she will pass you a letter for the Bowman Job Instructor. The Job Instructor can be found at the Henesys Dungeon entrance. Before going there, stock up at least 60-70 orange pots as you will have to pass a test. After talking to the job instructor, you will be teleported to a place like ant tunnel. There are two types of monster inside: Zombie mushrooms and Evil Eyes with different characteristics. They hit about 70+ on you. Collect 30 dark marbles by defeating these monsters. The drop is about 1 in 3 monsters. After that, talk to the job instructor and you will be awarded a 'proof of a hero'. Go back to henesys and talk to Athena Pierce. Now is the time for your to make the decision: Hunter or Crossbowman. For details, read on to find out the pros and cons of these jobs. After that, your will be given a skill book and your Max HP and Max MP will increase. Great isn't it? You just finished your second job advancement!

Second Job Introduction

This is where it gets fun! You've figured out the basics of the Archer, and you are now on your way of achieving what you've set out to do! Although the training may seem tough at times, later on you will realise that it was worth it.

Hunter Vs. Crossbow

Ah yes, one of the biggest questions about the Archer class. Which class should I pick?

Here I will list the Pros and Cons of the two classes hoping it will help you make your decision.

Hunter

Pros:

-Fast Attack

-Arrow Bomb can stun

-Come third job, their fire attacks will own in Ossyria

Cons:

-More Expensive

-Lower Damage

-5 less Dex than crossbowmen

-Come on, they don't even hold their bows. It just sits on their hands. You know you don't have fingers!

-During later stages of third job, you will be fighting the fire-resistant monsters of Ossyria (ie. Bains).

Crossbow Man//Woman

Pros:

-Tons of Damage

-Iron Arrow can attack farther

-Iron Arrow can attack through walls

-At third job, they get an ice shot that freezes monsters

-Require 5 less strength, resulting in more damage

-Less Expensive

Cons:

-Slower attack

-Iron Arrow can't stun

-Crossbows can be too big, so they cover up your equips

Now that you've looked at the Pros and Cons, it's time to pick your class.

Once you've done that, procede on my guide and I'll help you with the next steps!

Third Job Advancement

Third Job Introduction

To advance to the third job, go to El Nath - Chief Residence and speak to Rene. After talking to Rene, head back to Victoria Island and talk to Athena Pierce which is located in Henesys. Next, find the Door of Dimension located at Sleepy Dungeon V and it'll bring you to "The Path of the Glittering Crystal". Walk until the end of the path and enter the portal to defeat the wiseman's dark side to obtain the Black Charm.

Return to Athena Pierce and exchange the Black Charm for a Necklace of Strength. Return to El Nath after that and give the item to Rene. Head on to the Holy Ground at the Snowfield (Sharp Cliff II). 1 Dark Crystal is required to answer 5 questions to obtain the Necklace of Wisdom (if answered one question wrongly, you need another dark crystal to answer the five question again). Again, head back to Rene in El Nath and give her the Necklace of Wisdom.
