LUK should be your level +3 until a certain point (this is the minimum LUK needed to wear armors), and every other skill point should go into INT. It is recommended that you stop adding points into LUK sometime around 50 ~ 80 points in LUK, depending on how much money you are willing to spend in order to gain more accuracy.

Basic Magician's Guide

Starting Up

MapleStory has an alternative way to obtain your first job. Unlike most MMORPGs, MapleStory doesn't allow you to choose your first job at level 1. Also, you must follow a specific method in order for you to get the best out of your character.

When we first start up MapleStory, we'll encounter the Create Character button. What we would like to do is to have the following stats.

  • STR: 4
  • DEX: 4
  • INT: XX
  • LUK: XX

The reason is because INT and LUK will always be used for a magician, while STR and DEX will not. Since the lowest stats can go is 4, roll to minimize STR and DEX. we can get and minimize the amount of INT and LUK. It may take up to 20 minutes to complete this. If you're impatient, a STR and DEX of 5 is fine also.

As a Beginner

Now that you're a beginner, you can start training by attacking snails that are found all over. As you level up, you will gain 5 AP. These points should be spent only on INT and LUK. There is an optimal formula for where you put your AP.

  • LUK should be your level +3 until you have 50 to 80 points in luck. This is the minimum needed to wear armor.
  • All other points should go directly into INT

You will gain 1 SP every level for a beginner until level 8. You put SP into different skills. Put your first three SP into the Snail Throwing skill and the other 3 into the healing ability.

Remain at Maple Island until you reach level 8. At level 8, head to Southperry and walk to the right until you meet Shanks. Talk to Shanks and he'll ask you for 150 mesos for a ride to Lith Harbor.

Before you leave, it is advised to do the quests Please Bring This Letter To Lucas and Pio's Collecting Recycled Goods to get a good defensive item for your helmet/headband position and The Relaxer, which is a chair that heals you 50 HPs every 10 seconds (in comparison to 10 Hps every 10 seconds normally)
