Colzr's guide to mage

From MapleWiki

Colzr's Mage Guide! Hi!! I'm assuming since your here you want to know how to become a full fledged magician. Well it'll be long and sometimes hard, but it'll be worth it. Let's start with the pros and cons

Pros

  • Good Magic attack and Defense
  • Ranged so don't have to get close and get killed
  • Some spells can go through walls
  • When have magic guard Survival Rate increase a lot.
  • Have the most Mp
  • 2nd job allows elemental attacks which can do strong damage
  • If cleric, can heal and have buffs.
  • No need for accuaracy as Magicians are not affected by it.
  • Cheaper equipment as you have overalls

Cons

  • Low Hp
  • Hard to build perfect mage
  • Low Weapon Defense
  • Mp potions are costly and are more expensive than hp potions.
  • Magic guard takes a lot of mp.
  • Many monsters can kill mages in 1 hit without magic guard.

Maple Island Training When you start MS you start on maple island. Basically you can kill any monster because of the wonderful patch 0.65 which allows you to put Strength in and they'll change it later. So you can speed through training.

Remember you Must Be level 8 to get your job. When you leave maple island, you should be level 7, because if your level 8, you might become level 9, always do job advancements at the lowest levels. Do olaf's quest, because it'll get you a free wand. Go to ellina either by walking or the taxi. Remember not the VIP taxi, i've seen newbies take the vip taxi, show up at the ant tunnel and scream! Trust me it's not pleasant. At At Ellina go to the top, it's long, and go in the building. Talk to Grendel the Real Old and Your a magician!

Well you think the hard part's over right? No it's just began. First you'll get a little sp for your mage. put it in Magic Bolt or else. Why? Because if you don't you'll have no attack and your strength is all gone, so you'll do like what, 1-3 damage.

The skills are

Improving Mp recovery, This Improves your Mp Recovery time. Remember this is one of the most needed skills. Without it you'll need potions a lot more than if you had this.

Improving Max Mp Increase Needed (Improving Mp Recovery 5) Now this one is also important. This gives you even more mp when you level. And Mages need Mp, A LOT!

Magic Guard This is what i talked about before, it takes mp away for 80% of the damage when maxed. Use this at higher levels because at the start you won't be using it that much.

Magic Armour Needed Magic Guard level 3 This is useless, as Magic guard trumps this any day, and it only adds 40 weapon def when maxed, which sucks in the long run, and if you max this you'll take away from other skills. My friend Fish541 tried it, and it took away from his magic guard which he decided to max later in the 2nd job advancement.

Energy Bolt vs. Magic Claw Magic Claw attacks twice for 20 mp when maxed. Energy bolt Attacks once for 14 mp when maxed. Magic Claw is recommended as it does twice damage for a cost of 6 mp more, which is tiny. People say this'll add up but so will the damage.

Sp stats. In the Normal build you'll put one into energy bolt, than max Mp increase and almost max mp recovery Level 13 is around when you start to put in sp for claw 1 only though. Max claw then finish up mp recovery Finally max magic guard.

Power training, This is like the oppsite. This'll give you less mp and cost more but levels faster.

Max Magic claw as quicky as you can then mp increase then mp recovery then finally maxing magic guard.

If your funding this will be a lot easier, if not than itll be harder. Funded method, Buy a lot of pots then kill anything you can, when you run out of mp use the potions.
