Tespia was the original Global MapleStory world. It was use to test (hence the name Tespia) MapleStory in the U.S. Running before the "gold" release of the game, it served as a beta world, where new aspects of the game would be released before they were made live.

After Tespia started to fill up, it was divided into two worlds; East Tespia and West Tespia. Shortly after Global MapleStory went final and Scania went online, both of these worlds were closed. <<<Wrong, ^^ it was at first available for people in the U.S. and those in Malaysia, Singapore, and places around South-East Asia. Towards the end of the beta it was split up, and became MapleStory for the U.S. the other half was created into Maple SEA. At the end of May 2005, The new Maplestory was made for the U.S. and everyone had to restart their characters. But the Global gms had some sympathy and kept beta open for people to go back to. Then in November 2005 they closed beta from the lack of play. When the new global started you had to have a beta account to start. Any user who had a character on Tespia could get a bandana called the Mark of the Beta upon arriving at Victoria Island.

The only known MapleStory version to still have a beta world is the Korean version. This said server is also called Tespia.

Edit: 11/22/06 BANNEDRed ~ Beta Veteran ;D

Tespia as a testing server

About halfway in 2008, MapleGlobal released a testing server for testing things and finding glitches before it went out into the live server. The testing sever is limited and can only be accessed by winning a event held by Maplestory (Picking random people) each month. The testing server only lasts for 1 week before it is shut down and the live server patch starts.
