How to become a Holy Arrow Cleric/Priest :D

_______________________________________________

Magician

Introduction

Ok, since this is my first guide, don't be too harsh okay? :] First I wanna explain why I chose a Holy Arrow Cleric/Priest to make a guide on.

  • I made a Holy Arrow Cleric. :]
  • People don't like them because they don't really understand it well.
  • Its not as bad as people think.

For Example, people say that having max Holy Arrow is the same thing as having max Magic Claw.

This is true, but only in the sense that is has the same attack. Magic Claw = 40 att (for each claw). Holy Arrow = 80 Att.

But the upsides are:

1) Holy Arrow has elemental boost, good for DSGs or any unheal-able enemies, or even healable ones.

2) It makes it easier for clerics to train alone.

3) It's faster than Shining Ray.

4) Its the only offensive attack that Clerics get, so come on! =[

5) It's attack is more stable, making you get even more damage in.

6) The knockback you wouldn't get with claw. (For example, if you do claw on Gollems, and it does 600/600, it wont knock back, but if Holy Arrow does 1200, it will.)

Unfortunately, there are cons. They are:

1) You have to give up a skill for Holy Arrow.

2) Its attack is basically the same as lvl 1 Shining ray or Maxed Claw.

Anyway, on to the guide! :D

How to start off your Magician

Okay, once you choose to create a character, you might want to know what the four stats are for.

STR: Raises maximum attack and HP. Essential for Warriors.
DEX: Raises minimum attack and avoidability. Essential for Archers.
INT: Raises magic attack and MP. Essential for Magicians (That's us!).
LUK: Raises accuracy and reduces the amount of %lost after death. Essential for thieves.

Since you're going to be a mage (hopefully thats why you're reading this), you don't need str or dex. You need to keep int and luk. Your luk has to be your level +3. For example, if you're level 10, your luk needs to be 13. (10+3=13).

You NEED to get:

Str: 4
Dex: 4
Int: X (Anything)
Luk: X (Anything)

People say its "okay" to get 4 and 5 for str and dex, but its not. I know it'll take a long time, but yeah. Tough it out.

Go through the Tutorial. Its self-explanatory. While you're doing it, be sure you keep your LUK to your level +3 and just higher the rest into INT.

Useless beginner skills

3 Snails:

Description: Hurl a snail shell at a monster.

Max Level: 3.

Level 1 = Hurls a green shell at a monster (20 damage).

Level 2 = Hurls a blue shell at a monster (30 damage).

Level 3 = Hurls a red shell at a monster (40 damage).

I think thats right. Anyway,

My Opinion: This skill is ...weird. Its pretty useless. Don't get it :]Even though it can hit like...Horntail or something. Its like inavoidable, I think. But its useless times ten. Don't get it.

Recovery:

Description: Heals your HP for 30 seconds. [Needs 10 minutes in between uses]

Max Level: 3. Heals 72 HP in 30 seconds.

My Opinion: Get this skill :D Its good for low level mages. Cause we have low HP.

Nimble Feet:

Description: Allows your speed to increase. :] [Needs 15 minutes in between uses]

Max Level: 3. Speed +20 for 12 seconds.

My Opinion: This skill is plainly just for fun. :D Get this too.

Level 2: Recovery / Nimble Feet +1

Level 3: Same thing.

Level 4: Same thing.

Level 5: Same thing.

Level 6: Same thing.

Level 7: Same thing.

Until you max both of them.

Then when you're level eight, head on out to southperry and get yourself to Victoria Island.

Become a Magician

Once you're there, talk to this guy named Olaf to the right. Finish his silly quiz, then take "The Path to become a Magician". Once you're done with that, talk to the guy inside of a ticket booth and tell him to take you to Ellinia. Climb all the way to the top of Ellinia and talk to Grendel the Really Old [Wonderful name]. Finish the quest and then talk to him again and turn into a mage.

Skill Point Distribution

Improving MP Recovery:

Description: Recovery more MP instead of the icky 3 MP after 10 seconds.

My Opinion: This is useful for mages. Period.

Improving Max MP:

Description: Boost the amount of MP you would get after you level.

Max level: MP boost +20 MP.

My Opinion: This should be the first skill you get. Its the building block of getting higher MP.

Magic Guard:

Description: Allow a % of damage you recieve to attack your MP in order to reduce HP damage.

Max level: MP -12. 80% of the damage you recieve attacks your MP for 600 seconds.

My Opinion: This skill at first seems useless because it drains your MP, but its a lifesaver in tight situations. Plus, being a mage, you need all the help you can get staying alive, even as a cleric.

Magic Armor:

Description: Increase weapon defense.

Max level: Weapon defense +40 for 400 seconds.

My Opinion: This skill isn't really worth the SP. It may seem better than Magic Guard because of its lack of MP wasting, but it only takes off 40 damage of what you receive, which sucks for higher levels. (i.e. if you receive 2000 damage from an enemy, it becomes a 1960.) Also, it has no effect on magic attacks.

Energy Bolt:

Description: Hurls a ball of energy at a target.

Max level: MP -14. Base attack 55.

My Opinion: This skill is only good for low levels, because its the only magic attack you start with that won't eat your MP. Do not max it, because it's very weak even at a max level.

Magic Claw:

Description: Attacks an enemy with two claw attacks.

Max Level: MP -20. Base attack 40 (for each claw, which means 80 in total.)

My Opinion: This skill will be your main skill until maxing Holy Arrow, and even after that for those Light Based monsters, Monsters with objects in the way, etc.

Now for the skill distributing thing:

Level 8: Energy Bolt +1 (1)

Level 9: Improving MP Recovery +3 (3)

Level 10: Improving MP Recovery +2 (5), Improving Max MP +1 (1)

Level 11: Improving Max MP +3 (4)

Level 12: Improving Max MP +3 (7)

Level 13: Improving Max MP +3 (10) MAXED

Level 14: Improving MP Recovery +3 (8)

Level 15: Improving MP Recovery +3 (11)

Level 16: Improving MP Recovery +3 (14)

Level 17: Improving MP Recovery +2 (16) MAXED, Magic Claw +1 (1)

Level 18: Magic Claw +3 (4)

Level 19: Magic Claw +3 (7)

Level 20: Magic Claw +3 (10)

Level 21: Magic Claw +3 (13)

Level 22: Magic Claw +3 (16)

Level 23: Magic Claw +3 (19)

Level 24: Magic Claw +1 (20) MAXED, Magic Guard +2 (2)

Level 25: Magic Guard +3 (5)

Level 26: Magic Guard +3 (8)

Level 27: Magic Guard +3 (11)

Level 28: Magic Guard +3 (14)

Level 29: Magic Guard +3 (17)

Level 30: Magic Guard +3 (20) MAXED

So in the end your skills should be:

Improving MP Recovery: 16 MAXED.

Improving Max MP: 10 MAXED.

Magic Guard: 20 MAXED.

Magic Armor: 0.

Energy Bolt: 1.

Magic Claw: 20 MAXED.

Training Areas

  • Levels 1-8. Do the QUESTS. I know the pros out there are like "no, level first to 4-5, then do quests." NO. NONO. I found out they added like a billion more quests to Maple Island and they level you. Once you're done, any remaining levels should be for quests.
  • 8-10: I suggest slime tree, or if you think you're too weak then Henesys Training Park.
  • 10-15: Slime Tree again. At level 15 do quests.
  • 15-20: Quests, slime tree, then level 20 quests. There are plentiful.
  • 20-25: Once you're done with quests, I suggest green mushies. ORRRR, EVEN BETTER--PQ! KERNING PQ. MUST DO KERNING PQ. Then maybe ant tunnel.
  • 25-30: Kerning PQ. Ant tunnel if you don't want to. I highly suggest KPQ though.

Any Other Tips

  • Do all of those follow-up quests, like Nella's quests in Kerning City up till the last one, because it gives you your gloves.
  • If you're poor, do the Rememberer's quests when you find billboards in sleepywood. It gives you exp, potions, and it gives you a good training area.
  • Do KPQ. I cannot stress that enough. KPQ is amazingly fun plus gives good mesos and exp. :D
  • Do NOT do the Amoria Hair quest. It gives such HORRIBLE hair. All of my characters got either buzzcut or patched hair. My cleric was the only ~semi~lucky one. He got a monkey haircut. Thank God I got NX (at level 50, after 50 long levels of monkeyness) to change it to Metro. :D

Cleric

Second Job advancement

Well its about damn time! :D Once you're level 30 go see Grendel the Really Old and Boring again. Once he gives you your letter thing, go to the very top of the seemingly-endless Forest North of Ellinia. Talk to the Magician Instructor and he will teleport you to a place with Curse Eyes and Horny Mushrooms. They gives zero exp *toughie* and drop only black marbles. Plus, they're alot stronger than their regular counterparts. Collect 30 of them and talk to your mage instructor again. Then go back to Grendel the Really Old. He'll ask you what you want to become, click cleric obviously. He will then award you with one more skill point and another skill book. Oh, and more MP. Wheee. :D

Skill Point Distribution

MP Eater:

Description: Steals an amount of MP from the target. Cannot steal if Target has no MP left.

Max Level: 30% success rate of stealing 40% of the enemy's MP.

My Opinion: This skill may sound nice, and may save you a bit on potions, but its not that great. Since you're getting Holy Arrow, this skill won't be needed. You can get it at 1 since we're going to get it at 1 anyway like I did to save a bit, but its not that important.

Heal:

Description: Heals you and your party members. Also gives damage to undead enemies.

Max Level: MP -24, Heals 300% of your max HP.

My Opinion: The basic skill of any cleric, and what makes them so unique and special<3. Some people are stupid enough to leave it when its at 100% thinking its good enough. Its not. Not only will it be weaker for undead enemies, but no party will want you. Ever.

Invincible:

Description: Decreases an enemy's weapon attack by a %, not damage.

Max Level: MP -30, Weapon Attack -30% for 300 seconds.

My Opinion: This skill is also one of those lifesavers. It may sound like magic armor, but since it decreases the damage by PERCENT and NOT actual damage, its better.

Teleport:

Description: Teleports.

Max Level: MP -13, 150 in distance.

My Opinion: This skill is really good for training and tele-attacking. Plus its good if you're in a rush, also its just plain fun! :D

Bless:

Description: Increases party's accuracy, avoidability, magic defense and weapon defense, but cannot be combined with a potion (i.e. accuracy potion + bless.)

Max Level: Mp -24, +20 in Accuracy, Avoidability, Weapon Defense, and Magic Defense.

My Opinion: This is the ultimate party skill. Not for the defense, but for the accuracy and avoidability. :D Even if you're a holy arrow cleric, you're going to be partying. In PQ and whatnot. Heckyes. :D

Holy Arrow:

Description: Shoots an arrow of HOLY LIGHT at the enemy. Kaboom! :D

Max Level: Mp -24, Base Attack 80.

My Opinion: The skill I'm focusing on for this smexy guide. Its great for light-based enemies and regular enemies because its an even steadier damage than claw. Hmph. :P

Skill Distribution time! :D :

  • Invincible: 20 MAXED.
  • Teleport: 20 MAXED.
  • Bless: 20 MAXED.
  • Holy Arrow: 30 MAXED.

Training Areas

Level 30: Kerning PQ. :D Even though your heal is pretty much useless, people don't realize that and would love to party you! :D Plus its your final level for it. If you don't want to, then I suggest doing level 30 quests or Ant Tunnel.

Level 31-35: Ant Tunnel. Ant Tunnel is really good, gives good exp and also great mesos. In later levels you can go to evil eye cave, deep in ant tunnel park.

35-40: I would suggest ludi pq or carnival pq, because its great exp for your level, plus at level 40 your heal is maxed so its great. BUT, I was always leader in LPQ (And godly handclick at that, I was a famous track :]) If you can't get in a party, then Jr Wraiths in the subway is a good choice. Ant tunnel is still great, though. Also.

40-45: Quests, then CPQ or LPQ. Great exp. Yadda yadda. If you don't want to, then Zombie Lupins. Zlupins are great. :D

45-50: Quests, CPQ or LPQ. Zlupins are still a great choice.

50-55: Quests, Then onto lmpq. LMPQ is great exp. If you want you can OPQ, but its takes a while. LMPQ makes you rich<3 :] ZLupins are still good! :D

55-60: Quests, LMPQ, OPQ, or PPQ if you're 55+. ZLupins, Wraiths, or Master Chronos is good.

60-65: LMPQ, OPQ, PPQ. Wraiths, Master Chronos, or even Dark Stone Gollems with Holy Arrow. Or Jr Balrog in a party. If you can, go voodoos or hoodoos. GREAT exp.

65-70. All the PQs you can, Jr Rog, DSGs, Zombies, and Soul Teddies. VOODOOS AND HOODOOS are number ONE choice.

Any Other Tips

  • LMPQ is great for money whenever you're running low. Its really good

for all the pots you can NPC.

  • Partying is essential for any cleric, even if you're a holy arrow

one. Its a great way to get exp plus people die for you. Well technically they don't unless you're a bad cleric. :D

Priest

2.1: 3rd Job advancement [#prstgy]

Holy Crapola, you reached level 70? :] Groovy. Okay, now you have to go see Grendel the Really old. He tells you to go to Robiera in Elnath. Take the boat there. She talks for like two seconds, then tells you to go back to Grendel. Go back there. He tells you to go fight his evil twin or something in that area past Monkey Forest. I'm sorry, I can't seem to remember the name, but it's past the place with the Maladys. After you beat him (hes really easy) you get some funky rock. Give it back to Grendel, and he tells you to go to Robiera. Be sure to bring a REFINED Dark Crystal. Go buy one in FM or something. Anyway, then go find the Holy Ground in a few maps past Elnath. After you talk to the rock, answer 5 questions. Look up the answers online, because if you fail you waste your crystal and have to buy another one. They're like 1m+ each so don't waste em. Then go back to Robiera, and then, YOU ARE A PRIEST. :D Yay!

2.2: Skill Point Distribution [#yayprst]

Elemental Resistance:

Description: Makes you more resistant to elements.

Max Level: 50% resistance to all elements.

My Opinion: This skill is a lifesaver, but unfortunately you won't need it for a while until you start bossing or training on skeles or something.

Dispel:

Description: Dispels ailments from you and your party, along with enemies' boosts.

Max level: MP -20, Dispel 300% of the area with 100% success.

My Opinion: This spell is very good for bossing, and if you don't mind re-casting it a couple times, you won't need to max it right away.

Mystic Door:

Description: Creates a 2-way door for you and everyone in your party to the nearest town and back.

Max Level: Mp -33, Portal lasts for 180 seconds (3 minutes) with the cost of 1 magic rock.

My Opinion: I used this skill alot at level 1. It costs 1 magic rock so be sure to stock up. Its really useful for repotting, recharging, bathroom breaks, meeting someone in FM, or just fun. :]

Holy Symbol:

Description: Increases the experience you recieve. Fully successful if used on 2 or more people in the party.

Max Level: MP -80, lasts for 120 seconds with 150% experience.

My Opinion: This skill is groovylicious. Its like speed levelling and you'll need it if you wanna party alot.

Shining Ray:

Description: Your very first mob skill ^^; Attacks 6 enemies at once. Max Level: MP -50, Base attack 105.

My Opinion: You'll need this, no matter what kinda cleric/priest you are. Its great. :]

Summon Dragon:

Description: Summons a dragon that attacks along with you, at the cost of 1 summoning rock.

Max Level: MP -80, Base Attack 150 for 140 seconds. My Opinion: You won't need to MAX this skill, but if you do its fine. You just need to have it at atleast 15 to unlock Bahamut, a Bishop skill.

Doom:

Description: Turns a monster into a snail. Costs 1 magic rock.

Max Level: MP -30, changes a monster for 20 seconds, with a 90% chance success rate.

My Opinion: You don't really...NEED this. In fact I don't like it at all. It seems pretty useless. With the cost of a magic rock that you could be using on door, its not that great. But whatever, you're just dumping excess SP into it anyway.

Now skill distribution. I have multiple ways of raising a priest, and I'll save my personal favorite for last.

Summon Dragon: 30 MAXED OR 15.

Doom: 1 OR 16.

I am really against Party priests. Like, alot.

You have to depend on parties and it just seems like a load of boringness.

Okay, there you go. My build.

What? Why is Dragon so early?

Why are you laughing. Gosh. The reason Dragon is early, is cause its for the extra boost. Don't you want a boost? And the reason Elemental Resistance is a little late, is cause chances are you won't be fighting anything elemental for a LONG time. After Voodoos, you'll be in-between a few enemies til you get to himes, and then by the time you get to Skeles, you'll have Elemental Resistance maxed or atleast at a decent level. And, personally, I don't mind. Having to recast dispel every now and again whenever I go bossing, which is really really not often. If you decide to go bossing early, then you can switch around Dragon to after you Max Dispel, so it will be HS > SR > ER > Dispel > then Dragon. But this is my personal build, so yeah. :D

2.3: Training Areas [#prsttn]

Levels 70-74: Voodoos / Hoodoos (or as I like to call them, Poodoos) are a good choice. You can try Lucidas if you like. Zombies aren't bad either. At level 70 LMPQ if you want too, for the last chance to get lots and lots of moneyss<3 :] Then PPQ if you want.

Levels 75-79: Poodoos and Lucidas are still good. PPQ is good if you get bored. Try going to himes with a DK and maybe another attacker. If not, try DTs and MDTs with attackers but I don't really recommend that cause of lack of decent ER.

Levels 80-90: MDTs are good, and Himes are still great exp. I still fully recommend Himes.

Levels 90-XXX: Himes are still great, and ZPQ if you like. Also, you can try to go to Skeles if you want, but only with an attacker (preferrably a DK).
