Threatened for his life, Bob went back into his shell. You can carry him. He's not too heavy.
This is a drop from Bob the Snail, an old monster that appears in the Ant Tunnels, in map Drake's Meal Table.

- This shell is a quest item for all the Jay's Curiosity quests. This quest cannot be completed right now, at least in Maple Global, you can talk to The Rememberer, Gwin, Grendel, and Bruce about it, and get various rewards, but Bruce tells you to talk to Winston, and Winston has no quest for you.
- This item is Untradeable.
- In addition, you may only have one Bob's Snail Shell in your inventory at any one time.
