You can use Combo Step more inefficiently to cover large distances, the more common being covering ant tunnel. As mentioned, combo step is particularly efficient off ledges and due to the layout of ant tunnel, one can combo step entire maps in seconds.
There isnt much advantage in maxxed combo step. Polearm Booster seems the more sensible choice.

Tricks

The Combat Step actually shows that Maple Story has its own laws of physics :P

  • When this skill is mastered, you can "Boost yourself 1000 distance". Now that sounds nifty but it's not very far because of one reason; friction. Now there are instances when there is very little friction and the combat step can go an amazing distance. The most common would be the common ledge; when using the combat step off the very tip of an edge, there is no friction to slow down the actual speed of the combat step and you'll go faster than even the flash jump.
  • Now the combat step can help the Aran travel great distances quickly even while on standard terrain. This is by utilizing Maplestory's "Law of inertia". Let's go over it, the law of intertia states that an object in motion will stay in motion and an object that's immobile will stay immobile. Now this "law" is nulled by what is, by default, the arrow keys. Yes, pressing the move "=> and <=" forcibly makes you move without friction at a certain speed and if you stop pressing the keys then you will stop moving automatically. The following trick is used by initiating the Combat Step and then jumping after to avoid a certain amount of friction and the "inertia" of the combat step will send you flying forward, then the moment you land, use the combat step again and repeat. Tricky but once you get the hang of it, traveling with an Aran will be so much easier. Now the reason you can't use the arrow keys is because if you hold them in the direction you want to go, they will null the intertia that will send you forward when you jump after the Combat Step. All you need after that is practice. - Original trick by SamuelKim999 in KMS.
  • Using the trick above could reach speeds up to 200% and over.
