*Experienced I/L mages know that in the 3rd job, Cold Beam is rendered fairly obsolete by Ice Strike. Because of this, if you're making an I/L mage for the second time and have already had your fun w/ Cold Beam, you may want to skip it completely and opt for maxed slow. Slow remains useful throughout your characters life, and becomes increasingly useful as you fight faster mobs.

Introduction

The Ice/Lightning Wizard is one of three classes available to the Magician in the Second Job Advancement. The Ice/Lightning Wizard is one of the more popular classes, due to its versatility. While possessing slightly less power than a Wizard (Fire/Poison), the Ice/Lightning Wizard gains the ability to freeze and attack multiple enemies which enables this wizard to level slightly faster.

Skills of an Ice/Lightning Wizard

MP Eater.gif MP Eater Master Level: 20

Absorbs a percentage of an enemy's MP. However, if the enemy runs out of MP, this skill does nothing.

  • Type: Passive
  • Prerequisites: None.
  • Level 1: 11% chance of success, absorbs 21% of total MP
  • Level 20: 30% chance of success, absorbs 40% of total MP

Raises the party's Magic Attack for a period of time.

  • Type: Supportive
  • Prerequisites: 3 in MP Eater
  • Level 1: MP-10, +1 M.ATK, 10 seconds.
  • Level 20: MP-20, +20 M.ATK, 200 seconds.

Teleport.gif Teleport Master Level: 20

Instantly moves the character a distance in a certain direction.

  • Type: Supportive
  • Prerequisites: None.
  • Level 1: MP-60, with 130 in distance.
  • Level 20: MP-13, with 150 in distance.

  • Level 1: MP-12, 13 attack, 1 second freeze, 15% mastery.
  • Level 30: MP-24, 100 attack, 2 second freeze, 60% mastery.

Uses electricity to hit multiple monsters at the same time. (up to 6)

Role of an Ice/Lightning Wizard

An Ice/Lightning Wizard mostly uses skills against mobs. It's medium-strength attack, Cold Beam, is used to make it easier to take on mobs by freezing individual monsters. Thunderbolt attacks multiple enemies at the same time, to clear the mobs faster. The other skills are shared with Fire/Poison Wizards.

Mesos

During the second job, Ice/Lightning Wizards generally make more money than Fire/Poison, but less than Clerics. Near the end, all three come closer together, but during the 4X and 5X and some of 6X, Ice/Lightning remains second. If you picked Ice first, (tree 1/3), then you would earn a decent amount of money while leveling at an decent speed. If you picked Lightning first though, you would level a LOT faster at the earlier stages, but waste a lot of money on potions. Usually a Lightning Wizard will use a few million mesos before they max Cold Beam. This is true unless of course, as recommended to save mesos, you rested once you ran out of the 2,000+ MP you have. With your insanely fast MP recovery rate you will gain it all back in less than 5 minutes with your chair. Still Ice/Lightning is better than the Fire/Poison in most cases.

Training

Hybrid:

30-35: Stick to Ant Tunnel 1, 2, and 3, the Remember's quest's are easy exp.

33-36: Kerning City Subway, on the bubblings(26 exp.) or go to the stirge(33 exp.). P.S from reader Sakura Cellions give excellent money and are weak to ice, also gives 65 exp.


35-42: Fire Boars(60 exp.) of Jr. Cellions(65 exp.) in ludibrium, you can also go to retz(78 exp.) at helios tower.

30-50:Monster Carnival- Possibly the fastest exp, and faster than Ludibrium. Also, it lets you not to use your pots and earn a few mil by getting a necklace.

35-50: Party Quest (Ludibrium)- It is possible slower than monster carnival, but it can be a change of pace

51-60: Red Drakes(220 exp.), Cellions(160 exp.) in orbis, or you can go to florina beach and pwn almost every monster there. You can also try the Ludi Maze PQ. Gives great money and experience.

61-70: You can do almost anything at the levels, so there are no recommended places to train. Just train where ever you feel like, or train to get money and items.

Ice:

30-35: Stick to the Ant Tunnel. Horned Mushrooms are still good.

EDIT: From my experience, excavation site III's monsters gives pretty good exp, you might want to train there from lvl 30 - 35.

33-36: Boars. 1-2hit kills for 42 EXP.

EDIT: Here I would train on fire boars for 2 hit kills with magic claw. With more money.

35-42: Fire Boars. 1-2 hit kills for 60 EXP. There are also Sentinels and Fire Sentinels for lower 35-40s. They are weak to ice and are a bit easier than fire boars. 1-2 hit kills for 55 exp. Ludibrium Party Quest should help a lot here (specially from level 35 to 40) and is one of the best way to get fast leveling to level 45 - 50.

43-50: Jr. Cellion/Jr. Lioner. 1-2 (should be 1) hit kills for 65 EXP, plus 5 EXP per horn with Exchange Quest, and you get some potions to help with training. Ludibrium PQ is still good but slower than before.

51-60: Red Drakes. 220 EXP each, 2-4 hit kills, depending on equipment, and other stuff. The Cellions at Orbis, 160 exp. and not too bad of drops. You might also want to start the Ludibrium Maze PQ, as it gives phenomenal money. Just sell all foods that you get as prizes from the PQ. You can possibly gain one million mesos a day.

61-70: Stay at Red Drakes, or you can try Hot Sands with your Thunderbolt. You can also stick with the LMPQ

Lightning:

For most levels (when you get your thunder to about lvl 15+): You can also train at the Helios tower in Ludibrium, on the Retz, not very good drops but they spawn fast and your thunder can kill in 3 - 6 hits. Retz give 78 exp.

30-35: Stay at the Ant Tunnel. Mob kill in most spots, Exp comes very fast.

33-36: Bubblings in Kerning City Subway, or start on Lorangs in Florina Beach.

35-42: You can start on Lorangs here, 80 Exp Each. Or Fire Boars, If you 1 Hit KO with Ice, 60 Exp Each. Ludibrium Party Quest should help a lot here (specially from level 35 to 40) and is one of the best way to get fast leveling to level 45 - 50. You can also train at Retz in Helios tower, 78 exp. and spawn very fats 3 - 6 hit kills.

43-50: Stick with Lorangs/Clangs, though move to Jr. Cellions if your Ice is above level 15 (If you One-Hit KO them). Ludibrium PQ is still fast here but slower than before.

51-60: You have Versatility here. You can stick with Clangs/Turtles, or you can go Red Drakes. 220 Exp each, 2-3 hit kill, Many good drops. You can also start the Ludi Maze PQ at level 55 or so.

61-70: Stay at Hot Sands, or you can stay at Red Drakes, Both ways Exp comes very nicely. Sticking with the LMPQ is good as well.

Overall

Ice/Lightning Wizards start fun, but end up getting boring as the training spots start diminishing, starting at level 40 or so. Once you reach the third job though, it becomes a lot more fun. Just be patient, take a break if you need it, and you'll eventually finish. If you find it too boring, switch to party quests, they're a change in environment.
